Hot damn, that trailer has got me so damn pumped for this game. I'm really glad they've stayed true to the arcade. Put the arcade version in first place and then focus on the console versions. And that it's still 2D. No one is waiting for a Street Fighter version of crappy ass Tekken.
What's really awesome is how the characters in the game look like the anime designs from the old Street Fighter II booklets. Really takes me back. And the action looks a lot like the alpha series.
Hot damn! Now I'm going to get a tattoo of Gouki's "sky" sing on my back! Better hurry before I sober up and reconsider.

The game looks perfect so far. I'm just a little dissapointed that no SFIII characters will be in there for the initial console release.
I mean atleast put Alex in there!

Sweet. I recently found myself enjoying Street Fighter, When I was stuck in Winnipeg I was in a house where alot of stoners came by. Since it was the only decent 2-player game I brought with me, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike became the game of choice. I kept to Ryu/Ken/Akuma, and everyone else avoided those three and played the other characters. I lost maybe once.
Hopefully the characters in SF4 are a bit more balanced..

I'd actually say 3rd Strike is the most well balanced fighting game, second only to Guilty Gear XX (most especially Accent Core). the Ryu/Ken/Akuma combination is best for noob-on-noob. sure, they're the fastest; but all-together they're actually mid-to-low tier. they're offenses and defenses are among the lowest in the game. especially Akuma's. Sean is also similar to their styles, yet he's the lowest on the tier. Yun is infact the best character in the game, with Chun-Li coming in second.
that's not to claim that you're a noob. but whoever you were playing apperently are. if some-one's switching between Ryu, Ken and Akuma, you definatly don't want to be choosing Hugo. unless you really know what you're doing.

I used Sean and Ibuki a few times, they're pretty cool, as is Alex. These guys weren't SF gurus though..

I'm not sure what you mean by fastest, there are much faster characters than the shotos.
To a scrub, the three will feel pretty much the same.
Ken is in the top three, with Yun and Chun. He's easy to use, has a great super, very versatile, and has no major weaknesses. He doesn't dominate but he has good matchups against most of the characters. He's popular because he's so easy to learn and be good with.
Akuma is actually becoming very good. There are a ton of Jap and American pro players who are beasting with him. Akuma is faster than Ken and has excellent rushdown. Played properly, his low defence isn't much of an issue. I would rate him at least mid tier, up from low tier. I'm tempted to put him at mid-high.
Ryu is probably the worst of the three right now, at least in professional tiers. He's a low-mid at best. That said, he's still my favourite scrub-smasher :D. Seeing them go 'wtf??' after a Denjin combo is always fun.
Aside from the other 2 top tiers, a good Makoto or Urien will beat the shotos. Yang and Dudley have about a 50/50.

Played a good handful of hours at a local arcade.
The game is awesome.
I was really worried about the transition from 3S and the loss of parries...
But they're still kinda there.
The game is VERY fun and I honestly think it's better than 3s.
I CAN'T WAIT to play the console characters though. Dan Hibiki is my god.

Played in a few SFIV arcade tournaments in Japan as Guile dressed as Guile. Fucking awesome game. I've had the 360 version on pre-order for a looong time, but nothing beats the arcade... except for the fact that each play is 100 yen.
Some of these guys STAYED in the arcades in Akihabara and Odaiba for whole days dropping money in to them like they're filthy rich. And for all the time they spend on them, I was ranked overall as #2. I got to meet the #1 guy who just happened to be #1 in Japan at SFIII. Cool guy, he spoke broken English. Heh.
So there you have it. Officially, in Japan, Guile has taken the spot for #1 and #2, with Ken at #3 and Abel at #4.

In contrary to popular belief, Ken is actually a pretty cool character and not an emo faggot like Ryu. Beating someone in the arcade with Ken always is extra satisfactory, as they just got their ass handed to them by a blonde guy with long hair and fiery red clothing.

The only thing I don't like with 3S's Ken is that fake kick which never came in handy, not once. Normally I would use Ken over Ryu any day, but Ryu had that half-circle kick that was useful in moving your off-guard opponent across the screen. And, he didn't have any fake kicks. That kick made me hated by all.
I almost forgot about Makoto, she's pretty brutal but not as cheap as Ibuki. However that just made me want to play against guys who knew how to fight properly..
Will SF4 on the consoles have an online mode, hopefully with as little lag as possible?
