The winter season has come and I always make tons of hot chocolate in the month of December. I just love it. I have seen many different ways of making it the most common with sugar, milk and baking cocoa. Share your favorite recipe.

My usual is:
3 tablespoons of baking cocoa
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2 tablespoon of condensed milk
1/2 cup of Half and Half
2 cups of milk
To make it I just mix the half and half, condensed milk and milk in a saucepan, heat it to a good temperature, not boiling though. And then throw in the rest of the stuff. Top with whip cream.

Nice thread, I'm gonna have to give that a try. Usually I just go with the powdered cocoa from Nestle or some other co., and always make it with milk.

I can't believe people actually make hot chocolate with water. I mean, seriously, what the hell?

Alton Brown told me to first make a sludge in the bottom of your mug with a small amount of the hot milk/cream and the dry ingredients, then once it's mixed and smooth put in the rest of the milk/cream.

No chunks no lumps!

That's how I've always done it, works quite well! Plus nothing spills over the sides.

Yeah, I do that too.

I found a brand of powdered cocoa that I like, but it's just a little local almost home made kind of thing.
If I'm making it myself (for several people), I'll make a ganache (melt chocolate with an equal amount of cream) and dilute it with milk, then I'll add a bit of freshly ground cinnamon. Mmmm....

1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups milk
4-8 oz. peppermint schnapps (1-2 oz per drink)

Combine sugar, cocoa, and cinnamon in large saucepan. Gradually stir in milk; heat stirring occasionally, to serving temperature. Pour into mug or cup. top with schnapps. Serve immediately.

Makes 4 servings.

Hot cocoa is cheap. The way to go if you have the time and a little bit of money is hot chocolate.

Easy as Hell recipe:

milk
ghirardelli 60% chocolate
vanilla extract

take a pot or saucepan and heat as much milk as you need (I measure by pouring the cold milk until it is 7/8 of the way filling the mug, then dumping into pan.) take the bar of ghirardelli and break it in half. 1/2 bar of chocolate per mug. Heat the milk, add the vanilla (1 drop per mug), and add the chocolate. Tend to till no chocolate chunks. Pour and add marshmallows or whip cream. ENJOY!

Caution: do not put your milk on high heat, it can scorch the pan when you add the chocolate.

This. I usually stick with the powdered shit mixed with milk. Or sometimes buy those liter cartons of chocolate milk for 99 cents and just heat that shit up.
