ok, i have this thing called ultra mobile 3gp video converter. i use it to convert videos to .mp4 for use on my ipod.

now i have obtained registration codes so i can use it for free, but their are currently no programs i know of that are 100% free that let you convert files to .mp4 from just about anything else.

so i was wondering if it was some how possible to go into this program and copy certain parts or all the "code" and then kind of just change the way it looks and make it more "user friendly" and then put the program on the internet for people to download free.

and on a scale from 1-10, how hard would this be?

if it can be done.

also, is it legal? like i know what i am doing is illegal, but if i put it up for a free download and their is no reference to the software i copied, and i dont associate it with them, then can they do anything?

also, i do not claim to know at all what i am talking about. i know nothing of making programs and so this may be a dumb question, but i had to ask.

What you are talking about is illegal.
What you are talking about would not work anyways.
There are a lot of free programs to do that (ffmpeg, mplayer/mencoder, etc)

That would be illegal. You could use ollydbg to disassemble it but unless you're really really really skilled with assembly you're not going to get anywhere.
If you could figure out what it was compiled with you might be able to decompile it but I really doubt that.
The best you can do is to download a cracked version from bittorrent and seed the torrent for a while, maybe a week.

...or you could just use mediacoder. Url: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
