Just picked up this 06 Kawasaki KLX250s, it will be my first motorcycle and I'm pretty excited. It's a dual sport so I can ride it around the streets and the hit the trails too. Figured I would post it for gearheads and if anyone has any comments/advice for a me being an inexperienced rider, please post.

She's a clean looking girl man. I'd recommend that you buy a manual, check the thickness of your brake pads and discs and replace them if they are worn right down, bleed the brake lines, change the oil and filter (use a nice motul motorcycle oil), change the coolant, and check your valve clearances (you'll have to buy a set of feeler gauges to do that). Make sure that you are at TDC when you check your clearances too, or else things will go bang when you try to start the old girl again.
It sounds like a lot but it really isn't much man. It won't cost fuck all either. :)
Edit: Dude, is that rear chain rusty? Replace it with a new DID or Tsubaki job, with a a new rear sprocket and a new gearbox sprocket if it looks worn as shit too. At the very least lubricate the chain man, I use this (http://www.mxdeals.com/wax-chain-maxima.html) gear. It won't fling off the chain all over you and the bike, and it will lengthen the life of your chain greatly.
It might also be worth stripping the carb on her and cleaning all the jets with carburettor cleaner.
If you do all that she'll love you long time. Thrashing bikes until they die is for retards. Keep her clean and in good nick and you'll get good resale value and a bike that is a pleasure to ride, rather than some sputtering shitbox that lets you down all the time.
