didnt know where to post this....

well, long ago i burried a time capsule in my yard. i just recently remembered it. ive dug and dug, but i cant find it. i know the general area of where its at. their are alot of tree roots in this area too, and that makes it harder.

any ideas of how i can find it?

This is totally the wrong area. But the people here are still smart enough to answer it.

Metal detector would be a good start. They are cheap too. Also good for finding hidden power lines which could kill you.

How big is it? you could take a big sharpened stick and stab into the ground to try to find it.

If it contains metal it shouldn't be very hard at all to pick up on a metal detector. Simply hire or borrow one, or if this isn't a weapons cache/drug stash, look for a guy with a metal detector and ask him if he'll help you just for shits & giggles, and maybe a slab of beer. Maybe under the guise that there may be artifacts buried beneath.

It's very easy to tell whether it's a powerline or pipeline, because those run in a long line. You'll easily notice this when operating a metal detector.

If you're having no luck with the metal detector, mark off a grid in the area and try your hand at probing. This WILL be highly complcated by the tree roots though. If the ground where you live is soft, you could probe it like Blankooie said. I'd use whatever rods the cops use. If the ground's too hard, it may be a little easier if you wait until you've had a decent rain.
