I've been following this for years, since HL2 first came out. They're taking forever, but it looks amazing so far.

I love the fact that they're completely rebuilding the maps from the ground up. They're doing all their own models, skins, music...this is a huge undertaking for a mod group.

Ambitious, but I think it'll be worth the wait.

The jumping wasn't difficult at all. The only hard part was when you needed to jump on that flying manta ray thing. Fighting the mother headcrab was easy if you did it right, and the final boss took a long time but it wasn't hard.

I didn't even realize that a significant amount of people hated Xen. Jumping on the bombers was tough, but not overly hard if you knew what you were doing.

You're stupid. The strategy on easy and hard is the same. Hard just takes more ammo and more time. If you don't let her toxic spit thing hit you, which is really easy to avoid, then you shouldn't be dying. When she charges you, strafe and shoot her sack. When she runs, save your ammo and follow her. Shooting her when she's running away from you does fuck all as far as I know because it's basically part of an in-game transition.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Xen is so damn hard. At least Xen had some interesting enemies. Like those flying things that shoot fireballs at you. The mini versoins of the final boos. They at least put some challenge in the game.

Also, the final boss of Half Life was trippy as hell. I love that battle. It's what made the game so awesome. Running up to his lair had this awesomely eery feel to it. And then seeing a giant ass baby with a forehead the size of a football field made it perfect.

HL1 stands on its own without fancy graphics. I gladly paid $25 for the PS2 version, and I'll gladly fork over more for Doom, Final Doom, and Quake 2 for the PS2. (Its a fucking travesty that Quake 1 never got ported. :()

They even recognized this way back with the NES... they had to design a light gun because using a controller to shoot sucks. They knew this back in 1990.

Now, if they replaced the right joystick with a trackball, then we might be on-to something.

right hand shoots, throws grenades, brings the sights up. With a trackball, you'd be able to aim much faster and much more accurately...

With a stick, I find myself circling the target... zeroing it in... and if you touch the stick just slightly too hard you over-shoot your target and get raped. Its exactly why laptops no longer use that little nub in the middle of the keyboard to control the mouse.

Yeah, I'm 100% used to using inverted sticks for 3d games... 2d games need to be normal.

I'm not saying that FPS are unplayable or even not enjoyable using sticks... its just that if you're SERIOUS about your FPS, you just KNOW that mouse and keyboard is the way to go. There is no substitute.

Sticks are perfect for racing, sports, adventure games like oblivion, and anything that doesn't require precision on a constant basis. Sticks are great for moving your character around... not for moving the camera around.

I got through Orange Box on hard settings on a PS3 with the Dual Shock 3 controller, and it wasn't even challenging. Perhaps your skills with dual analog sticks isn't as good as mine. Maybe you need to practice some more. :cool:

Hard settings? In Half-Life? Dude, that's got to be the easiest "hard" setting ever. Half-Life "hard" is easier than most games' normal. Great game, but easy as hell.

But if you really want to prove how awesome you are with a controller, I'll play you in any PC FPS I own that supports dual analog controls. I'll play you one round with a mouse and keyboard and stomp you into the ground, then I'll play you with a controller and undoubtedly beat you again.

What I'm going on about is this... show me a fucking device that is as accurate, fast, and easy to use as a mouse for aiming a gun in a FPS. Set up a LAN game with a friend, have him use a keyboard and mouse, you plug in a controller and set that up to play. Then play 100 games... how many did you win? I'd guess somewhere around 0... or 1 if you're lucky.

Or for your most recent arguement.... use just the keyboard against his keyboard and mouse. 100 games. You'd win roughly 0.

Theres even a difference in mice... match two people up... one has a ball mouse, and one has a modern dual-laser mouse. Lets see just how accurate the ball mouse is compared to the laser mouse.

Theres no way you can do an instinctive jerk-and-fire with a stick... with a stick you're FORCED to turn only at a certain max rate of rotation.... no matter how hard you hit the stick, you only turn so fast.

Also with a mouse you can get accurate on a pixel-by-pixel basis... I can move my mouse exactly one pixel with minimal effort. Now if I tried to do that with a stick, I'd move 3 pixels... or 5... whatever the stick is pre-programmed to move... in set increments. A mouse offers COMPLETE CONTROL of your aiming device, and is ONLY LIMITED BY YOUR SKILL AT MOVING THE MOUSE!

I'll play you 1000 games with my keyboard and mouse, and you can hook up a controller and play with that... I'll stomp your ass all 1000 times.... guaranteed.

The only recent cross platform multiplayer FPS I can think of is Shadow-Run, and it's not very good. It also hobbled the PC users controls and gave the console users auto-aim to make things fair.

I have 9 years of FPS experience on a PC... I have 3 years of experience on a console... A computer is extremely easy to aim and shoot with... I would have to go with a controller just because it is more of a challenge... I think that people complain about console games too much just because they can't use a damned controller.
