I’ve decided that I need to listen to some more of this legendary man’s work. I’ve only heard a few tracks before but I can’t remember the names.

Any songs/album recommendations?

Thanks

Have you seen Wiki Jawaka?

You can't go wrong with the albums Joe's Garage or One Size Fits All or Zoot Allors.

I hate Zoot Allures, you can definitely go wrong with it.
And I'm not huge on One Size Fits All either but everyone suggests it so I'm sure it's a good suggestion.

Son of Cheep Thrills is a cheap compilation, usually 5 bucks or so, with really good songs on it.
Off the top of my head,Roxy and Elsewhere, You Are What You Is, We're Only In It For the Money, Weasels Ripped My Flesh.. I guess any more suggestions would be overkill.

You will wind up working in a gas station and the torture will never stop! You will call on any vegetable and the vegetable will not reply. When you're thirsty? The yellow snow will be melted to quench your thirst.

The price of meat has just gone up and your old lady has just gone down!

Now...shut up...and play your guitar.

Apostrophe (') is a pretty cool album. I've got Overnite sensation also, but I prefer Apostrophe (')

I'm not really bothered if it's live or not, I just need to find some of his songs to help me get into his work

Actually I just put down my guitar. And the vegetables will always approve of me.

Duggers, suggestions are going to be all over the place. The Mothers were mostly semi-psychedelic rock with some jazz instruments thrown in there. There's also really tight jazz fusion stuff, straight up rock, theatrical/lyrical/high concept nonsense, synclavier, and orchestral. Do some research before you buy (assuming you ARE planning on buying) and try to get something that seems right for you. You might pick up something really out there and be turned off forever.

Oh and the suggestion I left off so it wouldn't be overkill: Lather

That's really the reason why I came to the all knowing R&R section and asked, I know that he has a huge catalogue of material and have no idea where to start, but I'll give the ones that you've suggested a go.

And of course I was going to buy the albums...

Hot Rats is one of my favorite Zappa albums. It has Peaches en Regalia on it, which was mentioned earler.

Apostrophe was mentioned earlier as well, it's good. So is Absolutely Free.

I like Jazz From Hell, Freak Out, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, but then again I'm into the more avant garde side of zappa so who knows

The orange county lumber truck or other wise named Orange county. My favorite Zappa track. (coming from a guitarist point of view.)

Apostrophe' is a pretty safe starter....if you like that then you can delve a little deeper, but that album seems to be a little more listener-friendly than others of his.

And "Have I Offended Anyone" is great.

Add to that: Absolutely Free, Lumpy Gravy, Sheik Yer Bootie and Live at Roxy and Elsewhere.

Yeha Apostrophe would be one of his more commercial stuff.

I <3 Studio tan :(

I liked the instrumentals on Studio Tan, hated the vocal songs, especially "Let Me Take You to the Beach."

I'm the same way with Waka/Jawaka though, those short songs rule

If your into digging around try to find the DVD called Baby Snakes, a mix of some wicked animation and live concerts. That's the way to get into Zappa, just dig around into live recordings of his, they're all studio quality performances and for the most part rock. The current album of my choice would be We're Only in it For the Money.

You know what? I'll put Studio Tan on soon, just to give it another go.
