View Full Version : Pinpointing Physical Location of Internet Leach

Okay, so someone has been leaching net access off a friend's unsecured wireless internet access. It is a laptop connected to the internet by a USB dongle that is provided by a mobile network. Don't tell me how stupid they are, I already told them. They usually live in the country so it isn't a problem however she has been staying at a hotel like place in the city. The latest bill has come in at ~$600 without any excessive usage on her part so obviously one (or more) people in the same building have been connecting to her.
Now, I know I can install a program and see who is connected and the data packets being transferred at any one point - my question is - is there any way I pinpoint their physical location?
Failing this, how can I send them some sort of warning?
Cheers

You could get two or three buddies and triangulate them. But that's a huge bitch. It'd be easier to run that program that got demo'd at DEFCON a year or so back that changed wireless streams live, and replace every picture with goatse.

Get some kind of packet sniffer and log there traffic. If you happen to get web accounts go in fuck them up and leave a message. Then do the above. lol

If I was some normal person, and logged into my myspace or something and saw "Quit leeching off my badwith asshat, next time, you wont have a computer to do it with" I'd literally shit my pants, and never leech off that person again.

Yeah, its called airpwn. But honestly I think it would be easier just to use ettercap running a filter set to replace all images.:D
How would it stop the original packet from getting through? Like, where would one install such a program so that it can intercept and control all the packets?

You're going to have to explain a bit more how her connection is set up.
So she has a laptop with a 3G dongle so she can use the phone network?
How is this person connecting to get her laptop if its a dongle?
