Hi,
I am a boy that has an interest in the arts of network and computer security. In my endeavors I have found my impatience has been growing after each outdated text file. Due to my incoherence of the standard tech language, and growing frustration, I have decided to ask you, my fellow totoseans, for guidance.
Any websites of valuable info that has been of help to you people?
www.hellboundhackers.org (http://www.hellboundhackers.org)
www.hackthissite.org (http://www.hackthissite.org)
All decent, but mostly only cover web hacking. Neither cover rooting (as far as I can remember, I don't go to them anymore really, haven't in a year or so so they might have added more), but they're decent places to start.
Edit: HBH is way better.

www.irongeek.com
The hacking illustrated videos at irongeek are really great for beginners.
www.hak5.org
You can also find some great ebooks on torrent sites.
I also recommend going to your local Barnes and Noble and picking up a 2600 or a hackin9 magazine and maybe even a python programming book.:p

I recommend getting some certs. Becoming a 1337 hax0r doesn't happen in a week. Not even a year. You need to know the systems you are dealing with. Try and get an A+ cert for hardware. Then take some networking courses. I recommend cisco because their certs can make you quite a bit of cash for someone without a college degree. You don't even need to go to school to learn this stuff. Just download some e-books and practice tests. Once you pay for and pass the test you could get a job that allows to you some real life experience. By this time you should be able to figure out where you need to go from there.
EDIT: The above posts are very good places as well to learn some stuff.

First off, you need to learn how to be patient. This doesn't happen very fast at all, it's like watching paint dry x10

Buying a 'hacking' book could also get you at least some grips to the language of hacking. Like what a DoS attack is and such and such.
But don't go buying too many, you only really need A hacking book just to read whilst your out and about. (There all virtually the same anyway).
But If WarWeed doesn't mind me stating his website.
http://www.warweed.com/news.php
He has some good text files on Linux/social engineering/hacking+ . It doesn't matter THAT much about the date of it. The main concepts of hacking doesn't change that much, its also good to see what ways used to work, and are 'blocked' today.

Or watching paint dry x10.
Hak5 (like someone said above) is a really great show. Start from the beginning though.
HackThisSite is pretty good as well, sites like that help to get a little bit of the mentality required. I've done pretty much all the challenges on HTS so if you need any help, then I'll be glad to lend a hand.
Learning some attacks on networks is quite a quick process actually, and allot of fun can be had. Cracking WEP, man-in-the-middle attacks etc.

Oh shit I almost forgot. Bookmark and worship http://www.googleguide.com/ and try to download some of the many free e-books on google hacking. This is an excellent start. You won't get far if you don't know how to search for information. Google hacking will help you tremendously with finding pretty much any info you want. It should also give you a small feeling of accomplishment once you've got it down pretty good and can pull off some of the neat little tricks you will learn.

Gee thanks alot guys.:D
Due to my incoherence of the standard tech language, and growing frustration, I have decided to ask you, my fellow totoseans, for guidance.
Step 1 : Do not download any neat hacking tools. No matter what. If you get used to relying on crutches, you'll never learn anything, and you'll end up one of these people who come in here and post portscans and ask "wut does I do with this" because they have no freaking idea. Don't do that.
Nmap? Don't download it. Etheral/wireshark? Not for a long-ass time, and not now. 'sploit-from-a-box kits? Never, ever, ever, ever, ever - period.
If you're on a windoze box, your "1337 skr1pt" of choice should be notepad. That's it. Period, end of story.
Step 2-4...
Step 2 : If you are on a windoze box, find your damned dos prompt.
This will do two things. First, you will learn about things like directory structure, which is actually kind of directly applicable. You can't really learn that in a gui system where there's no real difference between a shortcut file to a directory, and a directory. You'll learn about "." and "..", which are two of the most important things in 1337 hax0ring.
Second, you'll get used to typing text instead of clicking graphics, which is a good mindset to have. Ignore the 1337 skr1ptkit which comes standard with windoze for now, completley. It is not yet time.
Step 3 : learn to count to 255 in binary. On your fingers, boy.
Step 4 : learn to read hex. This is really fucking easy, because it's just splitting a byte into two four-bit pairs. You'll actually use this later.
Steps 5-7 : welcome to kiddie internets...
Step 5 : learn HTML. From notepad, not some damn autogenerator.
This will seem almost useless. After all, it doesn't execute. 'n it sort of is... but not only will it get you used to typing in things in ways in which the computer can read them - you know, "spelling counts," "no, it will not correct your syntax for you," and the like - but there's some things in HTML you'll want to be able to read. Plus, despite the disdain it gets from people who have played with a real fucking compiler, you actually can do a lot of '1337 h4x0ring' just by writing your own form field for someone else's post cgi.
As lame as that is, I can promise you it's infinitely cooler than "I just downloaded someone else's botkit lol I r the shit." Ask the mods here if you don't believe me. Incidentally, you're now ready for...
Step 5.1 : if you're using exploder/nutscrape/etc on windoze, learn WTF your right mouse button does. Since you already know what the fuck a "directory structure" is from your time on a dos prompt, this will let you break into poorly-written porn sites that forgot to turn virtual directory listing off, and other such fun things. Or, download the password files, if they're dumb enough to store them above the root html directory with vdl not turned off.
Speaking of which, step 5.0 does a lot more than I'm letting on. But... much like a USB line, I'll show you later. Much later, 'cause it's not time now, padawan.
Step 6 : learn jscript. This will not only let you pretend to learn how to program with a toy language that isn't too bad, but you can actually have a bit of fun by making other people's web pages a frame in your own webpage. Not that this is particularly useful, but it's not exactly unuseful either. Plus, you can raep the proxies of skiddies who forgot to turn scripting off just by setting document.location to a non-http protocol sometimes. 'n some other stuff. Like rewriting other people's web pages.
Step 7 : learn php. This is actually just the continuation of step 5.0, but not only will it allow you to create a webpage that actually does something, but it'll teach you some of what to do with steps five and, if neccesary, six.
Steps 8-10 : is it really made up of tubes?
Step 8 : read about *nix. Find out how the fuck it managed to contribute to network routing. Do this a fucking lot.
Step 9 : This is when you download etheral/wireshark, incidentally. Spend a lot of time looking at arbitrary packets until they make sense to you. Since you can already count in binary/hex and already know the packet structure, this should be easy, but the point of this is to make routing intuitive and automatic, like breathing, rather than a passive, external knowledge. It is a part of you.
Step 10 : this is the stage in which you can return to your dos prompt, if on windoze, and start learning about such leet skiddie tools as ping, tracert, netstat, and the like. It's legitimate now; if you've done everything up to this point well, you actually know wtf you're doing instead of just pushing skiddie buttons with magic names.
Step 11 : getting your cock wet.
Step 11 : Hop on internets. Find site. Poke site, preferably gently enough that you're not getting v& over it. Lather, rinse, and repeat until you find one that does something unexpected. This is the important part - figure out wtf just happened and why.
Regardless of what some "my botnet is 1337" skiddie told you, step 11 is hacking, and it's what hacking is all about. This computer in/security stuff is worthless, and a worthless distraction... and exists only as a byproduct of learning about the system. In spite of this, though, if you follow the steps outlined above, and have the sort of curious mind this takes, you should be able to raep most systems on the 'net, and most users, before you make it to step 8.
Have fun. Someday, you may even get a compiler...
^^You're a fucking idiot.

This book is great it's opened my eyes alot, nearly finished with reading it. I bought a hard copy so I can read it during breaks at work, and other places I go. Read it religiously make it your bible while your reading it.
http://www.tcpipguide.com/
Pick a programming language to start learning aswell while you are reading this book also.
After I finish reading the TCP/IP guide, I am going to read every RFC it lists in the back of the book. It will take a long time but that's how it's done by paying your dues and having the will and want to learn all this.
In my opinion you can read all the fucking hacking tutorials and bull shit people put on the internet but untill you have a good understand of networking/programming which no tutorial will give you, you will get no where.

Without this tool, you will never ever ever get anywhere other then looking for SQL injections, and RFI/LFI's. Really, without a network mapping tool, you know nothing. You don't know what services are running, where the services are running (this gives you a great understanding of ports), what type of system the services are running on, what 'could' be connected, how it's protected, and any real idea on where to start. After this complete ignorance and stupidity, I really failed to read the rest of this post, seeing as how much bullshit you are spewing.

Oh... don't be so sure.
Don't download nmap? Oh, it's a skiddie tool you say!
Yup.
Maybe to someone who is ignorant enough to the fact that it is the most precious tool in your arsenal.
Yes...
Now, answer this - did the original post say "I already know what I'm doing?"
That's a "yes or no" question.
Without this tool, you will never ever ever get anywhere... you know nothing. You don't know what services are running, where the services are running (this gives you a great understanding of ports), what type of system the services are running on, what 'could' be connected, how it's protected, and any real idea on where to start.
Oh yeah?
I offer you my condolances. Don't know whether to twist the knife, though...
After this complete ignorance and stupidity, I really failed to read the rest of this post, seeing as how much bullshit you are spewing.
I guess I do twist the knife.
echo @echo off >> scan.bat
echo telnet %1 1 >> scan.bat
echo telnet %1 2 >> scan.bat
echo telnet %1 3 >> scan.bat
...
echo telnet %1 65535 >> scan.bat
...you'll still have to set logfile port1.txt, port2.txt, etc manually, as well as type your commands manually as far as I know... but... ya know what? If you don't even know how to do it - or worse, don't even think it could be done - without the shiny toys... you don't deserve the shiny fucking toys, dude.
Besides, it's really much cooler logging multiple data probes sent to each port on the fly. Admittedly, in large part because there's something satisfying about being manually involved, in getting an idea in the middle of something and poking port X in a new and interesting way... but yeah. Portscanning was covered in step 2. And from that, step 11.
When did notepad become a skr1pt?
Are you claiming to have written notepad personally?
Stay with the times.
No.
You have to be a fucking idiot if you don't know how directory structure works, even from a GUI ...
Again, did the post say "I already know everything?" Right.
Great step! What you should have covered here master, is that they should be learning the basics, like batch commands, and how to PROPERLY use the command prompt and the tools it provides.
Actually, you'll note the "if you have done this properly" below.
Oh, we all have the fucking time to do this.....
Took me less than ten seconds when I was about seven. It's an easy fucking concept, dude.
It'll also help you a lot in setting flags.
Someone else can fill in the blanks, but really, this post for the most part is bullshit. Good attempt though.
Less so than you thought, so far. Including not knowing how to portscan from a dos prompt.
Try to keep in mind that the person it was replying to was asking how to begin, not how to maintain their valued position in a cracker's conference. In the martial arts, beginning is usually filled with simple things like how to stand, how to walk, and how to fall down, instead of nifty strikes and such. In computer usage - which is what "lern2hak" is, damnit, entry is a useless side effect - one starts with how to use an actual computer. Maybe even some internets. 'n it's logical to start someone on that before they packet-sniff their own IM proggie seeing what they can pull out of the info.
O'RLY really likes hes nmap.. careful what you say Joe!
Yeah, well... if he knows what he's doing - and how to replace conveniences - it's honorable. If he downloaded it 'cause he heard it's neat, it's not.
I'm guessing the former, but don't know, don't care.
Yeah, teh greatest hacks are...
...not going to be the first thing a beginner does?
Incidentally, I remember a charming buffer overflow from waaaaayyy back in the day that involved greater-than-bytelength array on the number of subdirectories, which was purely from the adress bar. Also a good reason to learn how to count on one's fingers and all... but that's purely a tangent.
This forum is full of fucking fail, fail, fail and fail.
Well, look at your whopping contribution.
WHAT fucking hacking tools are you talking about?
Any.
nmap is a *port scanner*
OMGNOWAI!
you can get most of the shit done, and even more, by using some form of *raw packets* or hping2 if your lazy.
And someone asking "where do I start"... should.
Tell me why this is am error you 1337 hax0r?
Well, for starters, D345FE55 is really fucking high for 640k paging. I'm too fucking lazy to check whether 1337h is within wordlength, or if that's even changed in the last several years.
^ Tell me what *protocol* is the above? :-D
It appears to be a permutation of the lorentz transformation. Misconstructed. With arbitrary padding.
...of course, I didn't continue after a recognized data popped out, because I don't fucking care.
Now... if you're done waving your e-peen, do you have anything to move the op forward... or nothing?

When did notepad become a skr1pt?
Are you claiming to have written notepad personally?
Whether he wrote notepad or not doesn't change whether it meets the definition of a script. To define a script, we'll need to define the term scripting language.
scripting language (skript´ing lang´gwij) (n.) A high-level programming language that is interpreted by another program at runtime rather than compiled by the computer’s processor as other programming languages (such as C and C++) are.
MS Windows Notepad is written in C, not in a scripting language. Therefore, by definition, it is not a script.

I donno, but there's always tons of people that come up in here talking shit when they have absolutely no knowledge to be talking. I didn't run and go get O_RLY. I'm not even sure which post you're referring to.

I lol'd. Go ahead. Make me lol some more...
Oh... don't be so sure.
Yup.
Yes...
Now, answer this - did the original post say "I already know what I'm doing?"
That's a "yes or no" question.
Oh yeah?
I offer you my condolances. Don't know whether to twist the knife, though...
Are you claiming to have written notepad personally?
No.
Again, did the post say "I already know everything?" Right.
Actually, you'll note the "if you have done this properly" below.
Took me less than ten seconds when I was about seven. It's an easy fucking concept, dude.
It'll also help you a lot in setting flags.
Yeah, well... if he knows what he's doing - and how to replace conveniences - it's honorable. If he downloaded it 'cause he heard it's neat, it's not.
I'm guessing the former, but don't know, don't care.

Guys... I guess I should resign and let JoePedo moderate here. Since he knows way more then I do.
