I'm getting a new bass since I've been playing an acoustic one for 4 years now, and never really needed anything better.

Now I'm starting a band, and am planning on buying one.

I've narrowed it down to two (maybe three) choices.

1. Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass (http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/Fender-AS-Geddy-Lee-Jazz-Bass-MN-Black-Blockinlays-Halsbindings/art-BAS0000359-000)

2. Reggie Hamilton Signature Jazz Bass (http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/Fender-AS-Reggie-Hamilton-Std.-J-Bass-RW-3-Tone-Sunburst-incl.Bag/art-BAS0002156-001)

(3.) Deluxe Jaguar Bass (http://www.musicstore.de/nl_NL/EUR/Fender-Deluxe-Jaguar-Bass-RW-Black/art-BAS0002269-001)

Don't really know the technical aspect of it all, so yeah.

I've played a standard jazz bass (I think), the jaguar bass and the geddy lee one, so far I like the geddy lee one best.

Edit; Although I like rush alot, so there might be a sub-conscious bias.

Personally I like the last one in your list.

Fender Jazz basses are awesome. Plus signature models jsut make you look like someone else, having their set up and all...
that's just me though.

If you have alot of money to spend, i'd suggest a Warwick over those Fenders. But, if you're set on the Fenders, pick the one you find easiest to play, that you're most comfortable with.

I'm going to the guitar store tomorrow, I'll check out some warwicks when I'm there.

And about the signatures making you look like someone else, I don't really care for the looks, and I just figured if it's good enough for those guys, it's good enough for me.

^^ Just find something you like then. You will know it cause it feels right . Ibanez and ernie ball make cool bass guitars too.

I'm still playing on my Squier strat that I modded . I have a Real strat too but this one just rox house

Fender basses are great. It just seems like everyone uses them.

Might I suggest the Schector Stiletto

I was sceptical at first. Ive had it for about a year now. Neck-through body, gold hardware, EMG pickups, and the best bang for your buck. Playing is effortless, one of the best basses I've ever played.

But out of the three in your list, my personal preference is the Jaguar bass.

Have a look at the American series Fenders, from what I've heard the 2008 models are some of the best fender have put out in a while.

the first one on the list looked to have the best specs to me but from the pics it looked like all three where 3/4 models (thats a big no no)

Personally, i play this:

1970's Fender Mustang. Plenty of punch for a 3/4 scale.

Yeah so, I went to the music store, and I have added a new contestant, the musicman stingray.

They didn't have any warwick basses tho, so yeah I can't really comment on them yet.

I'm just gonna go to a few more stores over the next few weeks and make a decision.

Thanks for the suggestions btw, you've all been wonderful.

If you do decide on the Ernie ball, musicman, you wont be let down, that is a fine piece of equipment.

budget doesn't seem to be an issue for considering you just threw in the musican. that bass is the best out of those for. the fender americans and american deluxes are comperable to that musicman, the geddy lee and others really are not.

I have the same Fender Jaguar Bass you're thinking about getting and it's a damn good bass. Really thin neck, which is why I chose it over other basses.

Musicman's are really nice, they're just too expensive for me right now.

I wouldn't buy online, make sure you find one that plays well. Remember there is always a standard MIM jazz bass that plays as well as an american made.

My god I hope you are a troll.

Epiphones aren't all that good.

And obviously the kind of bass playing you do isn't all that complex (I'm guessing just the bassnotes of the powerchords you play on guitar).

And, I AM gonna be ordering online, instruments are like 20% cheaper in Germany than they are here.

I'm gonna give this some more thought, going to another guitar store later today or tomorrow. Again thanks for the advice guys.

I agree, I almost bought an ephiphone thunderbird, thing has shitty toneless pickups...I opted for a schector 5 string with EMGs instead.

If you have alot of money to spend, i'd suggest a Warwick over those Fenders.

When I was shopping around for a new main axe, I had originally decided on a Warwick. I settled on a fretless Corvette. Now I'm smart enough to know that nothing is worth it if you can't pay cash. Combined with being a poor bastard, this meant I'd have to come back in a couple weeks when I could afford to pay cash for the damn thing. I knew it would be worth the wait.

BOY! I am SO GLAD I waited those few weeks!

I went up to New York during those weeks for some business and there were wretched humidity changes. I tell you, it was enough to make the grittiest, most die-hard carry-my-guitar-in-a-tote-sack bluesman cringe. I went into a Sam Ash on 48th to groove a little bit (it had been a few days and I was experiencing bass withdrawal).

To my utter horror, the neck on every single Corvette in the shop had been sufficiently wracked by the weather to have an improperly set action. In fact, this turned out to be the case for all the other Warwicks I played (I wanted to investigate) except the neck-thrus. I guess that heavy ebony really does a number on those exotic African woods, huh?

Well, I ended up buying a fretless Fender Jazz Bass with noiseless samarium cobalts instead of that Warwick. It was the best decision I ever made. I swear, Michael the Archangel played this bass to kick Lucifer out of heaven. It sounds that damn good.

I've got a set of groundwounds on it and the fretboard is holding up really well, especially for rosewood. There's nary a scratch on it. Now a lot of this is probably just me. I mean, the bass feels more right in my hands than any Warwick ever did. I got to admit, a lot of those are NICE BASSES and I would be a very happy man if I had an extra $3000 or so to spend on something like that, but this Fender J is my main go-to bass for the rest of my life.

Fender guitars have always sold themselves, except for that brief period of turmoil right after the CBS takeover in the 70's. Just don't buy them in the first two or three years after they start manufacturing in a new country. It always takes new factories a little while to figure out how to make the necks right.

Put some serious consideration into that Fender Jazz. Don't bother with a signature model; they are usually way more expensive than just doing the modifications yourself. A BadAss II bridge and a standard Jazz will probably cost you less than that Geddy Lee bass and it will sound that much sweeter because it will be adjusted to YOU.

I have never played a Jaguar but it looks like the wiring features could be a lot of fun. I don't know; could be just a gimmick. Looks like the weight distribution might be slightly awkward also.

Anyway, you already know what bass I would recommend. Just try them out - it's like falling in love; you know it when you see it. You know what? That's because buying a beautiful bass IS falling in love.

Yours from the low end,
T

ive got a pedulla rapture alongside others such as a warwick and a fender and its easily the best out of all of mine, try and play something by pedulla before you make your final decision.
