View Full Version : Where can I find root beer in the UK?

Since I visited my brother in the states and came across root beer I have been looking all over the place for the stuff in the UK.

I fucking love the stuff. You see I know Asda sell it but they rarely have any in stock and it's not the best in the first place. I had A&W when i was the states and I want to find something like that. You can get crates of the stuff delivered but I want a more convenient and regular way of getting some.

Does anybody know where I can find some 'good' root beer in the UK?

Dude what the hell are you talking about? :D You guys can legally drink at eighteen, there's a chip shop on every corner, it's hard to find a pub without red ale or cider on tap, and the trip to Amsterdam isn't half of what it is for us in the U.S.

Below the belt but not too far from the truth actually. But this to Bckpckr in relation to his original comment:

You are sort of right, there are a few advantages to being British...most of which you named but if you lived here you would know that the disadvantages outweigh all the advantages.

Back on topic now, I have just bought some of the stuff they sell in asda. That Carter's root beer and to be fair it ain't that bad. I'm going to have a look into ordering some of that A&W root beer though.

Thanks to Chaosphere by the way for posting that link. Sound mate.

I think you'll find that your problem is in looking far and wide for Root beer, instead of Sarsaparilla (pronounced "sarce-parelluh")! Root beer is simply the North American name for it. I can't believe no-one person had mentioned this already.

Is ginger beer the same as root beer? If yes, then they sell it in most off-licences.

No, but Sars is. Hey Lukas, you're Italian - what do you think of Chinotto / Bisleri Chinotto?

Find a corner shop in Soho or some oriental supermarkets (wing yip?), i think the brand is called sarsi or something. It'll be a red can somewhere near the sugar cane water (green can).

I don't even know what Root Beer is
I've heard of it on Amerikkan Tv, but it doesn't sound very nice
having the word beer in it and all.

No, not Shandy Bass. That's like 9 parts lemonade 1 part beer. A real shandy is half and half (and a drink for the women and kids), and root beer is neither. Root beer is Sarsaparilla.

Chinotto is good man, I used to drink a lot of Chinotto and rum, they mix quite nicely actually.

At the grocery store I work at this past week you could get like 4 8packs of root beer for 12 bucks. that's like over 200 cans for 90 dollars, opposed to 90 dollars for 72 cans.

Hey. I don't usually post here, but saw this in hot topics. Didn't read the thread, so I'm sorry if this has already been said, but...

World Foods Aisle in Tesco. I saw some there a few days ago. Go nuts.

Nearly all (larger) Tescos sell it.
Shame that some patriots had to resort to using the fact that OP can't readily find root beer as a reason that the US is 'better' than the UK.

Fucking LOVE A&W root beer milkshakes. I have a friend who had a 4L jug of root beer syrup that you mix with club soda and it tastes like the real deal. He ordered it online and for pretty cheap too.
