Tarot cards, probably most of us if we have bought some, whether it come from the internet, Barnes & Nobles, Metaphysics shop, etc. they all still work the same. So, my question is, is it possible to just write down the tarot cards on a piece of paper and use it the same way. After all, they are just paper and they're manufactured with no special purpose, etc.
I need to know this because, I of course like to study the occult, live by it and Hermetic ways. But my mother (I'm 17, so of course I live at home) is your typical dogmatic Christian mother who believes just the word "occult" itself is the "devil" and Jesus is God in living in flesh and died for every ones sins and he will send me to Hell for not going to church... So, she found my tarot card deck and threw it away... I don't have the money to spend to buy another deck, so? What could I do to make my own deck and have it work the same, does it even require anything besides the will-power of wanting to use them?
It would work the same. Before I got my first deck I printed out cards onto normal computer paper and used them. Its pretty hard to shuffle though.

There are some sites where you can do online readings.

Good call.

I actually use these more often than I use the real cards because of how much faster it is. Plus I can never remember the cookbook, as Arms calls it, definition of about 1/3 of the cards and the website has several meanings listed next to each card.

Thanks, those are actually accurate and good. ^.^
When using an online reading in order for it to be accurate, for me atleast, you have to act just the same as if you were using the real cards. Do whatever you do to get into your zone and just listen for your higher self to tell you when to push the button, the same way you would know when to stop shuffling.
The reason the online readings get such a bad reputation is because most people just load the page and press the button half expecting it not to work. A reading with real cards won't work if approach it the same way.

What's the difference between the two decks?
What's the difference between the two decks?
The symbology is quite a bit different. The Thoth deck is based on Crowley's system while the Rider-Waite deck is more like the Golden Dawn system. The Thoth deck is also much much more complex and requires a lot more occult knowledge than the Rider-Waite deck in order to understand it.
Different decks also resonate differently with differently with different people. It is important to find one that resonates well with you.

Making any deck of cards from scratch is a tremendous amount of work, and as has been pointed out, the result would be a bitch to shuffle.
I'd suggest making a pendulum and working with that.
