I caught the new Punisher reboot this afternoon and I have to say I was actually quite impressed. It lives up to exactly what a Punisher film should be in terms of tone, comic violence, set and costume design (I have to say that this film has perhaps one of the best hero introduction in comic-book movie history).

Admittedly I would not recommend this movie for everyone, the violence can come off as silly or cartoonish if you're not a fan of Punisher's Marvel Max run (or his type of violence general), but at the end of the day it certainly serves it's purpose (and serves it well). It one of the most precise comic-to-movie adaptions come out (which to could be a blessing or a curse to some).

Anyone else manage to see it yet?

Yep it kicked ass. Looked kind of grungy from the ads but I was sitting and was hungry for something... that chewed on blood and knew punisher was the thing to see. It's a testosterone movie that makes you proud to be a man. A great scene was when they rescued the mother and daughter and punisher gets out of the cop car and just fucking smokes the old man and his son. I like it when killers are relentless and kinetic, it's a knowing, as opposed to skitishness, and this is what it is to be a man.

I dunno, I still like the first one, with Dolph Lundgren--seemed to capture the comic book feel, especially the character of the drunk.

I'll give it a go, haven't read the comic in like 15 years though.

I just think that the punisher can't be some muscular sort of skinny guy, or even a guy who's just huge and all muscle.

The punisher was just this big fucking scary dude, who only shaved once a fortnight, his hair was all matted, fucked up, and singed in certain places, and he ate just raw meat.

The one with Dolph Lundgren didn't work, the one with that other skinny dude totally didn't look like the punisher, and I don't even think this dude looks like the punisher.

I mean, come on. Tobey Mcguire kind of resembles Peter Parker, Hugh Jackman kind of resembles wolverine, Christian Bale can pull off looking like Bruce Wayne, why the fuck can't they just find a guy that looks like the punisher?

Stallone could sort of pull off a Punisher if he lost a little muscle and got his facial features put back in their proper places.
