would it be dangerous to take apart a microwave? do you think i could get it to project its waves out of a lead pipe? how far would i be able to hold it away from something to burn it? i figured id put this ere because its something a mad scientist would come up with. would i have to use 2 microwaves?

the two dangerous things is the microwave and the capacitor.

the capacito kill you instantanely, so never touch the capacitor or discharg it.

many people do it on the net, type in google "herf004"

with this you can destroy electronic and radiate human.

human traget is the eye, and the brain :
if the temperature of brain reach 42 celcius degree permanent dommage can occur.

the important in this project is the watt of microwave even and the horn(antenna) gain.

the antenna can't be a pipe, and you can't use two magnetron.

best thing you have to do is study herf.

keyword : magnetron, herf, microwave gun.

microwave is invisible, so to verify if the microwave reflect to you, you can use fluorescent lamp.

THANKS DUDE at last some1 with info on the topic who doesnt dis my grammer

does this mean its completely safe to open while its not plugged in? it doesnt store energy does it?

how would i go about intensifying the beam or concentrating it to hit a smaller target i couldnt use a lens could i? it doesnt work like that does it i know i sound like a noob but i really dnt know a lot about microwaves

I don't think so, I believe that the capacitor has the ability to retain electricity even if the microwave is unplugged, this means that you can be electrocuted if you touch it.

If you don't know what a capacitor is or how dangerous it is, you should not attempt this project.

Capacitors store electrical charge and discharge it when the contacts touch anything conductive (that is: You). You can still take it apart safely, you just have to know what you're doing and make sure you don't touch any capacitors (or, in theory, give them a long enough time to discharge, but since you don't know their capacitance or anything, you have no idea how long that will take).

If you're going to do this, leave it unplugged for as long as possible before doing so.

thanks i was going to were those insulating gloves for this. lol yea i know whats conductive and whats a insulator i kinda figured it would hold electricity. i once touched a bug zapper after it had been unplugged for a few days it still had a little in it doesnt the conductor convert the small amounts of voltage to higher amounts?

Dude, don't go irradiating anyone.

Lol as much as i think everyone here would enjoy you giving yourself cataracts, i believe i should give out some fair warning. If you dont understand a capacitor- yes, you should probably start experimenting on things inside an un-modified microwave before you take it apart. However, there are perfectly safe ways to discharge a capacitor to a below lethal level (I still never trust them). I always used a butter knife across both terminals- making sure to hold the knife with my high voltage insulated gloves. High voltage is a bitch- but high amperage will kill you. The transformer in a microwave can be modified for use as an electric arc welder- so don't play around this can kill you.

The average capacitor is 3kv in a microwave.....so be careful. Use a really well insulated stick to discharge it through a capacitor, preferably. There might be smaller capacitors on the board for the timer, etc, but they might just give you a little zap.
