The NBA needs to implement a few new rules to help it compete wit the NFL. Raise the goals up to 12 feet. The best dunkers will still dunk. Make rim diameter wider. This seems like it will promote scoring. It will, but from further distances. Make a 5 point line about 5 feet behind the 3-point line. Hockey-esque approach to fights. Let them duel it out for a bit so they can get it over with and get on with the game. This would have prevented the whole Ron Artest/Pistons ordeal a few years back. They woul have settled it right there in the few seconds the fight is allowed instead of allowing their frustations build and eventually snap. Allow more contact. With the 12 feet rims, you wont get all these little fuckers trying to dunk from the free-throw line. Only the strong guys will go up for dunks, and they can handle the hits. Jumpball. Is the stupidist fucking thing ever implemented in a sport. Whichever team has the most athletic nigger gets the ball first? Puh leez. Have a prelimiary shootout from half court to see which team decides if they want the ball or not. Last, but not least, implement chain nets.

I would definately start paying attention to basketball if these rules were implimented
I think someone's angry that the Spurs, Stars, Mavericks, AND Texans suck this year.

I only like one of the teams you listed and the mavericks don't suck.

They really aren't doing well.
I sure hope it's the Spurs you like out of those....if it's the Texas, you don't deserve to be called a Totsean.

It's also at the height of its international popularity and only rising.

this shit is so retarded 5 point line is just fucking gay. raising the goals would be terrible only centers could dunk and less dunks would make worse ratings... look at the wnba. the whole game would be lay ups. shots would be harder you would have to arc the ball so much. yeah lets let 80 million dollar basketball players have a second profession as a boxer. if this was the case garnett would be in a wheelchair by now. jumpball gets the game going quick i would not want to pay for a game to see two guys bricking shots from half court for 5 minutes. and the swish from ropes sounds better. your ideas fail worse then slam ball.

You take that back.
Ok your ideas fail worse then the XFL.
What they should do is make timeouts illegal in the last minute of the game. I swear to God the last 30 seconds always take an hour!!! Pisses me off so much... it really overdoes the suspense.

Mavericks ftw.
it's gotta be hard seeing devin harris get 25 and 6 every night for the nets. have fun watching your team slowly collapse for the next few seasons.

Don't remind me.
Interesting fact, not only does the team with the most athletic nigger get first ball, but also very likely to win the game.
nevermind I'll assume it was irony or something.

T Make rim diameter wider. This seems like it will promote scoring.
I'm pretty sure that that's unnecessary. The Nuggets put up 168 last season. That's a lot.

Just because it isn't popular AS the NFL doesn't mean it can't still be successful. It's a general rule that the sport with fewer games will usually win out. Football > Basketball > Baseball

i think that the nba would be 1000000% better if the refs actually called some fouls not just under the hoop......seems the only way to get a foul call is sombody has to flop
main reason i say this is LeBron takes like 4 steps on his way to the basket and everybody loves LeBron so they dont kall it
not a lebron hater just i have seen him cheat and not get kalled out

It's simple, NFL games are played almost exclusively on Sundays. Everyone makes Sunday their football day. The NBA would have to play way less games in order to be more interesting. But your list of suggestions aren't bad. Except the chain net part... wtf?

That was the only part I liked. What's wrong with that idea?
Well I suppose it would make dunks 0.2% more dangerous.

And 100% more bad-ass.
i would rather hear the snap of the rope net then the sound of someone shaking change in their pockets.

It would create a specialty position like a kicker.

Michael Jordan was the savior and the death of the NBA. He was the greatest and everyone watched to see him play. I still remember watching the NBA back in the early 90s and loving his games. But, he was the first to get huge sponsorships, commercials, shoes, etc. All the kids that wanted to grow up and be like Mike are now in the NBA. But they also all have their own shoes, commercials, sponsorships, multi-million dollar contracts and appear on tv shows, etc. It's hardly about the game anymore. It's all about everyone trying to be the next Michael Jordan and being the biggest name. Almost every NBA player has such a huge ego that people get turned off by it. Nobody wants to watch that.
When the Olympics were on, the Spain vs. China games was one of the best basketball games I've seen in 20 years. China was winning for the majority of the game, despite Spain being the clear favorite. They were working hard as a team, it was clear who the best players were (they didn't need to showboat or celebrate, you just need to watch them play). Spain was such a solid team that they kept playing their normal game and eventually ended up winning, but the Chinese team showed so much heart and desperation to win that it made the game very exciting. In the NBA, you never see those kinds of games. If it's not an important post-season game or a game with a rival team, the players just do their thing, don't really care, and give a "fuck it" attitude when they start to lose.
Kids today who practice basketball everyday and might end up in the NBA need to realize it's about the game, not the shoes or the tv shows.

The reason why they permit fighting in hockey is because you can't possibly hit someone that hard while on skates. Notice how when two guys fight in a hockey game, they only swing with thier arms and don't put thier body into it? It's because they're on skates and you can't put your body into it.
If a guy like, skated up at a good speed and punched a guy with that type of force, he would definitely get ejected. In a basketball game, your just standing there in regular shoes, on a regular floor, they could actually get pretty hurt in fights. Thats why they don't permit fighting in other sports.

Well I was thinking one reason basketball is less exciting than football is that if there's more than 10 seconds on the clock, a big play doesn't mean much.
Someone can pull off a steal, get a breakaway, do an around the back pass, and have his teammate do a 360 windmill dunk and they get 2 points, then literally 12 seconds later the other team makes a jump shot and scores 2 points, and the amazing play is of no real consequence. It's almost like the last 10 minutes are all that matters.
^That's the most common complaint I hear. The argument can be used in reverse though, I've seen many low scoring sports where a fluke play will decide the outcome, and it's hard to believe that the better team won the game.
I can surely understand the "only the end matters" mentality of basketball, but I don't particularly agree.. If a team finishes the 1st quarter down 18-26, they get together and say "okay, we have to be better next quarter." Then maybe they're not, and they head to halftime down 38-53. Now they're really boned unless they can make a run. So they surge a little bit and cut it to 65-70 at the end of 3 quarters. This shows me that it's a game of fortitude and endurance, that it's important to play hard for every minute. The team that is losing by five points would be ahead by 10 if they didn't play like trash in the first half.
And that windmill breakaway dunk brings the crowd into it as well as the team, and the player that made the dunk will probably have sky high confidence for a little while, you might see him try to drive to the basket a little more and exploit weak interior defense. A really nasty dunk can change the complexion of the game by the slightest bit.

Gordy Howe once dislodged a man's skull. DISLODGED. A. SKULL. Yes, it's possible to hurt someone at a standstill on skates.
Also, whoever said basketball is more popular than baseball is wrong.
Also, fuck the Mavericks.
