Now, my car has about 190,000 miles on it, And i have a coolant leak somewhere. Now, it LOOKS like it is coming from the water pump, but i am not sure. Is it possible a timing belt in desperate need of changing could cause the pump to leak?

I don't know about CAUSING it to leak, but replacing both at the same time sounds like the way to go.

Should be pretty easy to find the leak. Take the water tank off, check that, then do the same for the hoses and what not that run up to the radiator.

A frayed timing belt definitely wouldn't cause a coolant leak. When it does go, nasty things can happen...so it's a good idea to replace it soon as Rocko said.

Coolant leaks are bastards in that the water runs down the engine, sometimes making it look like something else is leaking when the leak is really higher up. Turn the engine off and clean off all the crusty crap left behind from the leak, and then idle it from cold whilst watching carefully.

You can get some fluorescent dye to put in the coolant that will light up under a UV light. It's how we find oil and trans fluid leaks, should work with coolant too.

^ i think it is a separate dye for coolant though. a water soluble solution as opposed to oil soluble for oil, trans, p/s fluid
