"But spon, you're just a VW/Audi/Corolla fanboy!!1"
He makes a good point that many still don't get. Yes, it's the stupid interior argument, but shit, the US really has to step their shit up or those 15b will be gone in 6 months.
I agree with everything he said.
Ever since I was little, I've always like European cars. I never got into the whole American Muscle thing. American cars just never seemed exciting for me. My dad would always take my brother and I to car shows when we were younger. I sat in an American car and thought, "this isn't anything special." Then I would sit in something European and think, "this is the car for me".

I know there is other issues than this, but the last thing I judge a car on is the interior. Maybe I've always been a spartan.... although I can certainly appreciate nice interiors.... but I couldn't care less about the aesthetics inside if I like the car itself. The only things I really look for is a good dash cluster with an informative set of gauges (Fucking hate missing tachometers, automatic or not), shifter placement, pedal/steering placement and driving position. Bad seats don't really bother me, a resiliency I'm sure to lose as I age. Frankly sometimes I get a kick out of a stupid fugly interior (like the one in my 86' mercury...RIP) with a huge left-to-right scrolling speedo, strange maroon upholstery, a couch as a front seat and a dash mounted shifter.
Granted I really lean towards angular, 'race' style set ups. I really enjoy a bunch of gauges and readouts on operation (not rice, only if the gauge actually applies/is important or you use it, and I HATE pillar gauges and big stupid dash ones), and I like switches and levers.... but only if they actually function.
Of course, I know what is being said about the american interiors... and I have to agree despite my personal indifference... but they need to re-think their whole business plan before they get around to making nice interiors!

I agree with you. I like everything in my car to point towards me, so I can see it. I also agree that interior in domestic cars..sucks ass.
Heres how the interior in my S60 looks

Everything is focused at the driver, including the center console.

Heres a cobalt SS. Everything just points to the back of the car, flat with no distinctive shapes.

Heres a mustang. What the hell is with these dull dashboards?
Yeah, it's pretty lame how modern American dashboards are just these featureless panels on the firewall.
I do like the recessed gauge pods of the Mustang, though.

Until you drive one.
Until you drive one.
I drive a car with recessed gauges, and I love it.
I will say that driving the new Mustangs is a bit weird, it feels like you sit REALLY low.

I was in one and it feels like looking down a drain >.>
I guess I just like the old school-ness of it over a flat panel with a bunch of needles on it.

They would have, had they not taken all the important gauges and stuck them way the fuck over there.
