the fans broken and i cant even get it out to look at it because i cant get the back off my laptop for the fallowing reasons:

1. one of the screws is almost completely stripped
2. i can open it a couple inches on the side opposite of the stripped screw, but part of it seems "stuck".

i tried to blow it out w/ some air, but it didnt help.

when i try to watch videos or "multi task" it gets EXTREMELY slow, it will start to only show still frames in videos, it takes ten minuets to scroll down a small page, etc. i think its because of the heat.

i have a dell inspiron E1505 w/ intel core duo processor.

any ideas on what i can do? i made a little rig to keep it raised up so it can "breathe" but its not helping.

would it make a difference if i set up a little fan and used it as an external fan. if so, what would be the best place to have the fan?

Grab the stripped screw with a pair of pliers and pull it outward as you rotate the pliers and you should be able to remove it. Or just pry it out with a screw driver by putting the end under the head of the screw. If succesful then use a fan to blow on the cpu from the desk or table top.

Or cut a hole in the side of the case and use a fan to blow into the case to cool the cpu.

Oh yea laptop.

Send out for repair. Or replace the fan.

depending on how old it is you can try support, they might be able to fix it.

other hten that you have the option of forcing the thing open and replacing the fan - or it might be something else (dying mobo/cpu/graphic card) that produces the copious ammount of heat....

i cant realy help without more details....

You coul place an vacuum hose near the exhaust hole in an effort to clean any dust from the machine. It also may help cool the laptop as it is used.

so would putting a fan under it make any difference?

It may if you have it blowing out from the lappy.

If you're stuck with taking it apart, check the Dell website for the service manual. This walks you through taking it to bits, and lists which screw goes where, rather helpfully...

the good news is, that screw just fell out a few minuets ago.

bad news is i dont have a digital camera to post a pic for you to jack off to.

and im to lazy to take it apart now, ill do it later and post what happens.
