And don't say Wild Turkey, either. That's got to be some of the worst shit to ever touch my mouth. I can't even force myself to drink enough to get drunk. Worst $20 ever. The taste is far overpowered by something nasty. Decent hints and a good aftertaste, but the first wave is the worst.
So what else is there? I don't think I am much of a bourbon person if they are anything like WT. I was going to get some gin and try that out tomorrow, but I might as well ask around first. I know that some people like their beers bitter and all that crap. Well, I just want something simple, with a decent flavor, and enough kick to get hammered with.
I'll even indulge my inner negro and get some watermelon vodka if I have to. :p :D
wild blue, just think of it more as an alcoholic soda than a beer though...
liquor wise, go with a skyy or absolute vodka. can't give any decent gin suggestions, not a liquor i drink...
captain's cheap and drinkable [if price is of concern]. or cuzan's rums...
If you're gonna get some gin make sure and pick up tonic water. Resurrect your inner colonial Brit and gobble that shit up like you're in mosquito-infested nineteenth century India. :)

Make sure it's not cheap tonic water, some of the most foul tasting concoctions are made with good intentions, good gin, and cheap tonic water.

if you want to get drunk but cant stand the taste of booze i would recommend either an amaretto or some kind of flavored schnapps. personly i like peppermint or peach schnapps.
this stuff taste like candy an has just enough booze hidden inside to get you shitfaced. but be warned you will be in for a bad hangover if you decided to get wasted on schnapps or amaretto.

What about Liqueur? Drambuie or Yukon Jack? Stick some whisky in that to cut the sugar. Though...who can laugh at plain old rum 'n coke.

Yukon jack and lime Juice aka a snakebite are amazing. Jager is always a good selection IMO. Or you can get some Johnnie Walker black label.

Or you can get some Johnnie Walker black label.
That's a pretty good staple. Good on its own, or good with cola and a dash of lime.

At work during lunch we always get Bacardi Breezers or Vex drink the neck then fill with 3oz of rum or vodka.
Makes for a pretty easy drinking yet strong drink.

Johnny Walker is good, I can even drink the red.

take that wild turkey and toss a few shots into a cup of apple cider...
If you don't care for Wild Turkey 101, but want to try a good bourbon that's easy on the wallet, I suggest Even Williams. Far smoother than Beam or Turkey, and a far cry easier on the wallet. Their green label (80 proof) is excellent for all applications (I had some over the rocks on Friday night, and was thoroughly enjoying it), and their black label (83 proof, if I recall) is excellent as well. Both are available for under $10/fifth, or the same you'd pay for a pint of Jim Beam's white label.
Whoever suggested Absolut vodka is right on. A very even, very serviceable vodka that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Tanqueray is my go-to for gin (though I prefer Beefeater, because I like my gin extra dry), and learning to mix a proper martini with either gin or vodka is certainly something I'd encourage.

Captain Morgan's Original Spiced Rum
- always classic
- cheap(er)
- sweeter spiced rum
Appleton Estate Spiced Rum *strongly recommended*
- more expensive
- better tasting
- higher alcohol content
- darker rum
Bundaberg Rum *note: taste takes some getting used to*
- very unique tasting rum, almost watery but in a good way.
this is the only rum where the more of it I put in a drink, the better it seems to taste
- expensive (australian rum)
- harder to find
- awesome taste
Tanqueray No. 10
- expensive
- more of a martini Gin
- quad distilled
- best tasting gin out there. comparable with Bombay
as you can see, Im more partial to the rums. Actually, I only drink rum (and beer) with the occasional G+T
rum and coke son, never go wrong.

I'm partial to Tanqueray and bar lime. A surprisingly good mix is Fireball Whiskey and pink lemonade also.

Ahhh appleton is great with coke, but you might as well be tossing captains in there instead. Appleton's can be sipped straight if thats you're thing, but if you're lookin to get proper cut, toss it with some coke and slam it. Vilbe, what do you usually mix with?

You'd be better off with Bombay Sapphire. Gin is often used in martini's so if you're not down for tonic (even though you should be if you're drinking good gin) check out martini recipes and try one you like. Or, as much as it is disrespectful to gin, snoop dogg son - gin and juice. tastes good.

I'd say you don't have to go clear up to Saphire, but Gordon's is pretty rank stuff. On the level of your Popov and Nikolai vodkas.

He said he wanted something good to start off with, not many people like Beefeaters but I find it pleasant.
I like Beefeater too. Good stuff.
I suppose if he didn't want to pay for Sapphire, Tanqueray would be a perfectly serviceable place to start. Not horrible on the wallet, and doesn't taste like antiseptic.

I personally don't like Gin, but I will from time to time drink it in tonic. I personally like Tanqueray Rangpur
I'd say Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka is really good, and it goes well with Wild Cherry Pepsi. That is if you like fruity drinks.
It all depends on what kind of drinker you are.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of vodka either.
Mostly the only liquor I drink is Captain Morgan's Spiced or Dark rum, Wiser's, Southern Comfort, and occasionally I'll buy something nice or high quality. But I'm on a college budget, so I mostly stick to drinking beer, but I love liquor.
Those of us who aren't fans of vodka are in the minority, though. Vodka is currently the most popular spirit in the world, so regardless of whether we personally enjoy it or not, if you want to mix a cocktail for anyone, it's probably good to know a thing or two about it.
I maintain that Absolut is probably the best vodka on the market outside of the ultra-premium varieties (mainly because I'm not familiar with the ultra-premium ones...I can't afford a $45 fifth unless is Patron of Cabo Wabo).
^
Personally I HATE HATE HATE Patron. Overpriced garbage IMO, but we'll save that for another thread.
Regardless, Russian Standard and Ketel One have both been rated as the top vodkas at one time or another and don't cost much more than Absolut. Though Absolut is a great spirit in and of itself.

Whiskey:
Famous Grouse.
Johnny Walker Black label, green label, gold label.
Bell's.
J&B rare.
Vodka:
Russian Standard.
Absolut.
Gin:
Sapphire.
Tanqueray.
Beefeater.

Er, no. Snakebite is lager + cider.
Often different drinks have the same name. There are few hard and fast rules about drink names. Around here, a Snakebite is Southern Comfort and lime juice.

Fair enough.
I guess you yanks like your whiskey and we like our lager & cider, together, in one glass.
What I usually drink is lager + cider + whiskey + blue alcopop, all mixed up and in a pint glass :D
A relative of mine brought back a shot glass for me from Panama City Beach, Fl., with a "Snake Bite" recipe on it:
0.5 oz. whiskey
0.5 oz. tequila
Dash of Hot Sauce
Lime Wedge
Combine ingredients in shot glass.
Swallow.
Suck the lime.

I ended up buying Gordon's tonight. First sip from a warm bottle tastes mouthwashy, but it's a good flavor. James Bond's gin, according to the guy at the counter, lol. It doesn't burn much at all for being 80 proof and warm. It's also cheap. :D
Having a bit last night, it's got a piney flavor to it, like how pine needles smell. It's also got some sort of alkaline taste as well that I don't particularly care for. Not that bad straight from the bottle.
No work and no tests tomorrow. Guess who's getting fucked up?
Perhaps you should just give up now if you can't handle the pure win of Wild Turkey.
It's the nasty ass taste that ruins the alcohol. You want the rest of mine?

tried some various gins at a bar, gordons and bombay and have to say quite like them. didnt really ge tot the cocktail stage and more used them for sipping but bombay has a more complex flavour which i have to say was awesome.

bombay is some top quality gin. Bottle looks bad ass too which is always an added bonus.
AP - glad to hear you liked the gin! Should definitely test out some Bombay or Tanq 10 though if you're feeling like gin might be your thing.

That's really how gin is supposed to be, since it's flavored with juniper.
If you don't really like liquor but want to get drunk for cheap, I recommend 99 apples. It's 99 proof and tastes like an apple jolly rancher. Mixes well with sprite or 7-up if you want to mix it.
Also, I live in north jersey and around here a snake bite is hard cider and lager. Seems to be a pretty ambiguous term.
