View Full Version : Where should I shoot for?

So here's the deal...

I'm in the Army, and currently stationed at Bragg (3rd SFG to be more precise). Quite frankly I think I am very lucky to have landed such a great assignment. As I'm sure many of you know, Group is a very laid back and relaxed place to be. At least when compared to the vast majority of conventional units. Don't get me wrong, we still get down to work when the situation calls for it, but it is nowhere near as strict when it comes to just about every aspect of traditional Army standards.

I'm not sure if I plan on retiring from the Army, but I think I've got at least one more re-enlistment in me.

As stated before, I love being in Group. I hope to be a part of it for as long as I'm in. The only thing that concerns me is the environment I'm currently in. Ft. Bragg and especially Fayetteville are crime infested shitholes. It wouldn't be so bad if I were single, but I have a wife and someday children to consider. Any of you who are familiar with this area know about all the filth that gives "Fayettenam" it's name.

Now here's my question...

We've already established I want to stay in Group. However, I don't want to stay in 3rd. Basically, my main concern is finding a unit that is based in a fairly nice area. For the past few weeks I've been doing my homework on 7th and 10th groups (Carson and Florida (as of next year, but not sure where) respectively), and would like any feedback you guys may have regarding those two units, posts, surrounding areas, etc.

I've already spoken to my brother about Carson, as he just moved to Chicago from Denver after a four year stay there, and he said the crime rate is relatively low there. My best friend is also stationed here at Bragg (7th SFG), but is from St. Pete, FL. and could probably offer SOME input on the subject. He also just became active after doing about two years with 20th group.

Also, it's [probably] a longshot, but I was just curious if any of you knew what kind of opportunities there are at 7th or 10th for someone on a SOT-B team.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
