Which do you like more? Until about 3 years ago, I mainly just watched movies. Then I started getting into series and I can't get enough of them. I suppose shows like The Sopranos were revolutionary, in that it took the level of quality and seriousness in a TV show to a previously rare level. Each episode of that show was basically like a movie.
But in general, TV shows just kick ass because they last long, you really get to know the characters, and like I said above, each episode can basically be like a full movie if the quality is good enough.

The Sopranos?
What about Twin Peaks, X-Files etc...

X-Files? You must be joking...
I like both to be honest, certain series are as good as movies if not better, the thing I don't like is that I need to spend more time following the story.
Series usually have a better chance at character development, they can stress certain aspects of the story and cover more themes.

Never saw Twin Peaks. X-Files was great entertainment, of course, but pretty formulaic and cheesy compared to The Sopranos. I would mention Millennium instead of X-Files, though...it had a much more mature vibe, which is something I like in dramatic shows.
But it doesn't matter...if you like X-Files or Twin Peaks, go for it. I was just mentioning what appealed to me.
Tv is better of course
Mainly because movies are effort
you have to put them in a whatever player and stuff
plus they're much longer so you have to make sure you've nothing important to do first
Although I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I've finished watching one
so I can tell people I've seen it. hah

Wow, that's such a great amount of effort to stick a dvd in the player!
What about switching the tellie on? You have to press buttons to do that...

Same.
I can't really stand movies anymore. They're too long and there are too many crappy ones. All horror movies are shit because I'm not scared of fiction and "funny cuz itz bad" has been run into the ground.. So that rules out an entire genre.. All that dramatic pull on your heart strings crap pretty much has the same effect on me. It's all so cliche and everything is such a retread now, the only thing that's really fresh anymore is comedy, and even that's a mixed bag.
Then again, dramatic TV series are pretty crappy too, because the longer a series runs the more convoluted everything becomes with the characters. Maybe I just suck at this "immersion" thing, but as soon as a series of totally unrealistic events happen to a group of people who just happen to live in the same city and all know each other, I'm done. By that point, plot means absolutely nothing and it's all an acting showcase, basically a soap opera.
TV wins because of comedy, sports, and education.

derdrache is talking about premium channel 12-13 episode 'megashows', with no network restrictions, huge budgets and ensemble casts, which started with oz, then sex and the city, and then the soprano's, all of which remain by far their most successful shows.
personally, I prefer TV to movies, music, books, and human interaction. a TV show is like a living thing, with endless possibilities for the future. plus, cartoons. it's also good for people like me with no attention span.
i'm encouraged to see all this love for TV, i'd figured more people had become disillusioned. see the 'which tv show do you hate' for some promising shows in development.
"For 20 years i've listened to people bitch about how bad tv is and how great movies are, fuck em!" - Artie, The Larry Sanders Show
Movies tend to be more artistic, more meaningful, have deeper themes, etc. Also bigger budgets.
It just seems that more serious creative talent is dedicated to film, while television is more frivolous entertainment for the masses. Have to go with movies.

Ohhh hush. I'd have to unplug the ps3 (cos it's american my dvds don't work on it) or the wii and I always end up leaving discs in the wrong cases and it's a right kerfuffle
saying that I mostly watch movies online.

Tv suck shit cause the commercials "lol, stash dvd subscriber reporting in" anyways. A lot of good shows from the 90's and 00's are on DvD's now.
so...
I prefer TV personally. More character development, extended themes and storylines, and generally only require 30-50 minutes of my life at a stretch instead of say, 100-200 minutes. I'm slightly ADHD, so it helps. :)
I fucking hate TV, but everything on Showcase is win. Weeds, The L Word, Kenny Vs. Spenny, and all those weird sex shows fucking rock.
I still prefer movies though, no commercials.

I prefer TV over movie mainly because a movie would take about 90 mins where as a single episode might take 45~60 mins MAX.
But really, X-files is awesome i am right now on Season 7 ep 6:), going to end it by the end of this month. Technically i don't actually watch T.V because its a pain in the ass to watch it on TV when you don't have ShowTime!
So, i just torrent all the series that i like to watch.

too true. if only tv weren't dominated by networks fueled by advertising revenue...

It's all about PrisonBreak, TopGear, and the News. Louix Theroux if you can catch it. Soprano's was OK I guess, but that one series about the Melbourne underworld is better. Some people say it's all about 24, but they're faglets. 24 sucked.
Movies too long? Rubbish, every minute of The Shawshank Redemption's 4 hours 45 minutes was golden.

Prison Break is great, 24 sucks, and Sopranos is "OK"? I'd say your opinion is pretty much shit in most people's eyes.
