Sorry if this isnt the right forum(i think it is)

Let's say i had a small to medium amount of alcohol i wanted to distill.
The alcohol was created in quart jars so what i was thinking was get a large pot and fill it with water.

Put in a hole in a lid and fix a tube into the hole and seal around it.

Bring the water to 65°C with the jar suspended in the water and throw away any distillate that comes at this temp.(i've read this step is necessary to get rid methanol created in brewing, input on this would be great)

After the alcohol has been at 65°C i would then remove the jar and bring the water up to around 80°C and reinsert
the jar and allow to sit until the distilate tastes of mostly water.

The tubing will be run through a container filled with ice water and in to a smaller jar.

Then as each jar finished it would be a matter of doing the first few steps over(Minus the tube and lid as i could just transfer the lid.

So some one would hypothetically do it in the way mentioned do you think they would be able to pull off a semi pure alcohol?

Any advice or criticisms are gladly welcomed.(or if this belongs in bltc could a mod move it)

Wouldn't it be simpler to buy a bottle of Everclear? Distillation can be a dangerous process to do in your home.

Besides being underage everclear is illegal to sell in my state. Besides as long as i make sure that the lines that the vapor is flowing through is air tight i should keep the danger to a minimum.

He is asking this because he does not want to buy a bottle of Everclear. If he wanted to buy Everclear he would have told you. Now kindly stfu and proceed to answer his questions or move this someplace where they can be.

To OP: I have distilled and drank my own alcohol before without any adverse effects. Your setup sounds great, but I'm not sure about the whole different temps and discarding liquids thing. I just filtered my shit through activated charcoal a few times, it turned out fine.
But yeah, sounds good, I'd say go for it!

Sidenote: I'd steer clear of gas burners. Use an electric hotplate or burner or whatever, you don't want any fumes igniting.

Don't be a fuckhead. If all he's interested in obtaining is grain alcohol, purchasing Everclear, if available, would be a far simpler and cheaper way of going about this. I thought that perhaps saving him some effort and potential danger in his home might be worth a simple counter question. God forbid you think past your own simplistic and abrasive response to see that maybe, just maybe I was trying to help him out. But I suppose I shouldn't expect too much from a little twat who names himself after Steve-O.

That being said, and your juvenile garbage aside, there, steve-o, I've looked into this particular unit (http://www.amazingstill.com/parts.html) a few times. Seems like it'd be worth a try and the results could be reasonably dependable.

It's on my to do list, but I suppose, all things being equal, I find it far more convenient to purchase alcohol. I imagine, though, that if you're really serious, that unit would be the place to start, since components are cheap and readily available.
