heyy...

umm ive been reading about the US army (i use this term to refer to people with bullet proof suits and guns lol)

(im american obviously)

and although im 120 lbs and like 5'6 i still am rather interested in the idea of joining the army... (im 16, btw)
this is just an idea ive been bouncing around

would my weight/height stop me from being able to serve?

good idea, bad idea?

EDIT:

Wow I sound like a fucking idiot. The thing is, I'm an undisciplined little asshole that regularly engaged in criminal activities, and I'd like to cultivate some physical dexterity, strength, and discipline, as I think these skills are necessary in life...

There are plenty of scrawny motherfuckers like you in the Army.

As for the good or bad idea part... That's for you to decide.

I was 110 ibs and 5'6" when I came in, you have nothing to worry about. After basic I left weighing in at 137 ibs. I'm still skinny just not holocaust skinny anymore.

You know what they say:

The skinny die and the fat get skinny.

This especially applies in an expeditionary context.

Then again, it's a lot easier to hide behind bigger guys if you're skinny :D

Don't be a grunt. You don't sound like you'd like it.

mh... i see people that are 4'10" in the army.. long as you're able to do the obstacles (which I really don't know how this short girl did, I'm 5'8 and could have used some extra height on some of those things) and pass your pt test then yeah why can't you serve?!

5'6" isnt even that short. you're 16 and not done growing anyway. think about this for a second before you post :/

Our XO is 4'9"ish. Her PT scores are like 350s. But it is easier for females.

pshh.. i push myself every day and its never came easy to me.. i get 200s

i think maybe it just comes easy to some people, male or female.. cuz it's always looked to me like the males had it easier.. sure we have to do less reps, but the reps are harder for me to do

I believe he was talking about the fact that women in the military have to do less then the men as far as PT test goes and not that women are better PTers then men. I mean last time I checked the female requirement was lower then the male requirement for passing the PT test. Not saying women suck at PT, hell I always been kinda crappy on my run since I hate running.

Fitness tests should be in theory a complete joke if you're doing your end. And just hitting the gym with a baseline goal is going to give you that edge. Hell weightlifting is the ultimate lazy mans sport. You pretty much just eat healthy, hit the gym hard and heavy for an hour, go home and do whatever, and sleep. Hell believe it or not, that will actually skyrocket your PT score.

As for the cardio, don't buy into the more you run, the faster your time. Thats a bunch of crap. Shorter, more intense workouts will improve your run time. Intervals will improve you run time immensely.

If your gym offers it, the crossfit program is also a good program. It helps build strength, endurance along with cardio. All the stuff you need to do well in the military pt life.

If you're trying to get your distance times down, try and run for long periods of TIME rather than the same 1, 2, 3, or however many miles you are trying to get a good time at. Try and see how far you can get in 20 minutes, stopping to walk when you need to. Try and build how far you can get in 20-30 minutes up, and then after a week or two, run that distance that you're trying to cut your time down on and see how much your time has improved.

and that's because women are built differently than men.

If woman want equal rights, they should do an equal amount of PT. If you want to be treated as a man, pull as much weight as a man.

Yea, and the 60 year old Colonels should have to do just as many pushups and situps as the 18 year old recruits!

That 60 year old colonel won't be doing the same stuff as an 18 year old recruit. That girl will. The old officer will drive the ship, and the rest of us will be doing work. If a girl can't pull as much weight as the average guy, then I wouldn't want her out there. I'm not saying that I have anything against woman, but if they want equality, they should do an EQUAL amount of shit. Besides, that Colonel has already proved himself from the time he was one of those 18 year old recruits, all the way up until he got to the rank that he is now. When did the woman prove herself?

thats why most combat MOSs are closed to women... they are just built differently.

That's where you're wrong. Everyone has to do PT. It's stupid to think that everyone, regardless of age, gender, or other factors that you can't control, should be held to the same standards.

If women can't be infantry, why should they bother getting in as good of shape as the guys? There isn't equal treatment in the military, but it goes both ways.

Because paper-pushers get called for convoys, too.

Because women can do other jobs that require physical fitness and whos to say that paper pushing bitch wont get her convoy blown up on the way back to base and actually have to change from a supply bitch or whatever to doing the same shit a combat mos does? Or what about the fact women are allowed to be MPs? Among other jobs? I personally think the physical fitness standard should be the same all the way around doesn't matter age or sexual orientation. Yea obviously younger guys have the ability to stay in shape and be healthy easier then older guys but everyone should be equal all the way across the board because the older guys go out with the young ones so he is in the position to have to do the same shit as the younger guy but the army says its ok for him to be in less physical fitness.

Im all down for ANYONE being in the military, gays, women, children, who ever the fuck else wants but ONLY if they can keep up with the other guys. If a women wants to be in she should be able to keep the fuck up with the guys, because whats going to happen when shit hits the fan and that bitch only able to run a 20minute mile and all the dudes have to wait on her and take more time getting shot at? Same goes for just guys in the military if you can't keep up get the fuck out, same for gays you wanta fuck some dude in the ass go the fuck ahead but you want to be in the military you damn well better be able to keep up and shoot back, fuck dudes in the ass on your own time.

Sorry ill have to edit this later and make it make more sense because i've been drinking a little haha
