Or at least the most fun ASCII game ever. And it's certainly way more fun than 100% of the wack shit that's coming out nowadays. I shit you not, this game fucking rules and I guarantee you will like it. It's freeware and being constantly updated as well.

Basically, it's a political game, but not the boring kind. You start off as the founder of a Weather Underground/Symbionese Liberation Army type radical collective in an alternate history U.S., and your goal is to help the country attain "Elite Liberal" status by any means necessary. Twisted features of the game that I know totse peeps will like: mass murder, thievery, prostitution, drug dealing, kidnapping, torture/brainwashing, and much, much more. It's also funny as hell, satirizing all sides of the political spectrum. If you've ever daydreamed about being a terrorist, this is your ideal game.

It was originally done by the fucked up people at Bay 12 Games (of Dwarf Fortress fame), but they abandoned it and released the source, so it's currently being developed by some other dude.

After a while, the option to "go out to stop evil" or whatever it is, can't be chosen anymore. Anyone know why?

you probably went to the hospital or something. basically, you havent got a squad to sent out. i cant remember what the button was, but i think you press R to open the squad menu, press Z to make a new squad, then put your guy into the squad

yes im still playing this game :) i have an assload of people and money now, but dont know how to change the laws :(

Yeah, exactly what Mantikore said. Your squad is automatically disbanded if you go the hospital, get put in jail, after you escape a siege, etc.

You have to wait for the elections, and gain enough influence so that liberal government officials are elected and people vote for liberal propositions. An important thing early on is to get an Elite Liberal (green) president elected in 2008, so you don't have the conservative prez vetoing everything passed by Congress.

There are a bunch of ways to influence the people. First you should set up a printing press and business front at one of the bases, then recruit some journalists or authors, station them there, and have them write for your newspaper (the Liberal Guardian). Then when you get secret files (i.e. by getting a programmer and having him hack, opening the safe at Corporate HQ, etc.) you can publish them, which alters public opinion a lot. And whenever you do a site action, the newspaper puts a positive spin on it.

Getting sleeper agents by kidnapping and brainwashing people is important too. Raise your main interrogator's skill by starting off with janitors and other low level conservatives. Then start getting higher level conservatives, especially news anchors and radio personalities. Wait until they're listed as "stalwart arch-conservative" on the sleeper menu before you set them to promoting liberalism.
