I have been a loyal fan of The Simpsons more or less my entire life, I started watching the series when I was three years old and have enjoyed it since, up until now at least. I am certain that I have seen every episode that has been released, and there is an obvious downward trend in quality.

In addition to The Simpsons movie being a big disappointment, I have yet to enjoy a single episode in the 20th season. The continual pop culture references do not make for good episodes. In many cases, they actually blemish the show, turning it into a cheap advertisement rather than an entertaining cartoon. The improvements in animation will never make up for the lack of decent plots or jokes.

Worse still, the series is becoming quite obscene. The Simpsons started as a dysfunctional, but lovable, middle-class American family. Now they seem to be little more than an unbelievable group of degenerate perverts. The show is beginning resemble of Family Guy, Super Bad, and other moronic toilet comedies.

Since it's almost certain that the show is not going to return to its former glory, it'd be best to end it right now, so as not to tarnish the once-cherished classic any further.

I agree fully with everything you say, the only problem is that apparently the show still gets good rating or at least still gets enough to justify its existence, at the end of the day that's what media corporations really care about.

Until there's people watching the show they'll continue putting out new episodes.

I saw one episode the other night, I can't remember the major plot but one of the jokes early in the episode involved Homer trying to blow out some candles on a cake, I thought that what I saw of that episode wasn't actually half bad, had a few laughs, but nothing like the old episodes. The first time I'd laughed at a new episode in years though.

Hey, it's better than nothing. It's also better than a new shitty reality show to takes it's place and it's also better than watching the old episodes over and over again on dvd until you get sick of it. If you don't like it, then why not just change the channel?

The show is beginning resemble of Family Guy, Super Bad, and other moronic toilet comedies.

And that is why Family Guy has been better than The Simpsons for the last 4 years.

I still watch the new episodes, and I must say that I am entertained.

Still entertaining, but I think the series could have ended triumphantly with the release of the movie. The movie was good, IMO.

I think that the genius of the earlier Simpson's and Futurama episodes(until around early to mid 2000's) was the brilliant spoofing of American society. I believe that 100 years from now, students will be watching the Simpson's just as student's today are reading Mark Twain. The Simpson's used to be perhaps one of the best executed and most popular forms of satire in history.

I think that it was the same way, but to a lesser extent, with Family Guy before it was taken off the air.

Today's new episodes are all about getting laughs through shock value and let's-see-how-many-obscure-references-we-can-cram-into-this jokes.
