I have been a loyal fan of The Simpsons more or less my entire life, I started watching the series when I was three years old and have enjoyed it since, up until now at least. I am certain that I have seen every episode that has been released, and there is an obvious downward trend in quality.
In addition to The Simpsons movie being a big disappointment, I have yet to enjoy a single episode in the 20th season. The continual pop culture references do not make for good episodes. In many cases, they actually blemish the show, turning it into a cheap advertisement rather than an entertaining cartoon. The improvements in animation will never make up for the lack of decent plots or jokes.
Worse still, the series is becoming quite obscene. The Simpsons started as a dysfunctional, but lovable, middle-class American family. Now they seem to be little more than an unbelievable group of degenerate perverts. The show is beginning resemble of Family Guy, Super Bad, and other moronic toilet comedies.
Since it's almost certain that the show is not going to return to its former glory, it'd be best to end it right now, so as not to tarnish the once-cherished classic any further.
