I have recently decided to add more memory to my computer, as a lack of memory is the biggest limiting factor on my gaming at the moment.

Currently I only have 1gb of memory and would like to know at what point i would see the greatest performance-to-cost increase. ( want to add at least 2gb, but more is certainly an option.

Right now I have 1GB DDR3 1600 RAM with an ASUS P5E3 Delux mobo, and a Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor. Any other specs that you may need just let me know.

What OS are you running?

Isn't that the main limiter of how much ram you should get?

I bought the processor, but since then i have not had the money to buy more ram, now I do. and criticizing my purchases does not give me an answer, it just makes me feel bad....:(

Nowadays 2Gb is standard for any gaming PC, get at least 4GB with Vista installed.

Yeah... lol @ extreme core with only 1GB of RAM.
Seriously man.. just go and get another 3GB, or 2GB if you're cheap. 3GB is still pretty good. I'm still rocking 2.5 GB of DDR RAM in my comp...

Newegg or Tigerdirect @ xmas = more DDR3 ram 4 you.

Unless you are running a x64 os you will not be able to utilize more than ~3gb of ram

for x64 you can do as much as you want. I am run x64vista 8gb ddr2

I am running x32 vista, so there will be no benefit of having more than 3gb or ram?

is there any reason that would be better than just adding a single 2gb?

Triple Channel. It would give you far better results than a 2GB stick and 1GB stick.

Triple Channel. It would give you far better results than a 2GB stick and 1GB stick.

The Specs of my mobo say that it supports dual channel, but nothing about triple channel, does this change anything about the 3x1gb idea? If it is the case that I cant utilize the triple channel, should I look into something like getting a pair of 2 gb sticks in dual channel?

Kepp the stick you have now, add the 3 new sticks (regardless of what OS you have), you then have 4 sticks running in duel channel.

You should then have roughly 3~5 gigs of ram now.
