yeah so, my friend and i are going out to lunch tomarrow. we are going to a sea food restaurant but they have more than sea food on the menu. neither of us have had roasted duck. i was wondering , what does it compare to, how is it, is it worth the time and money?

Well it really depends on who owns that restaurant you're going to, are they Asian, Chinese?

I mean you can roast duck in several different ways, over here most of the duck around is sourced directly from the source(as in you'll have to spit out pellets) and it's usually stuffed, then marinated in olive oil and aromatic herbs and then roasted.

But if you eat it in a Chinese restaurant it'll be totally different.

I quite like duck, it's not something I'd eat too often as it tends to be quite fatty.

Just don't expect anything close to chicken or turkey. Duck is oilier (I wouldn't really call it fatty...semantics) and has that "gamey" flavour. And it's all dark meat.

Chinese style is delicious.

^ Well duck is definately fattier than other birds commonly consumed, you notice this if you make duck soup, it releases a lot of grease in the water (I agree with your statement that it is also oilier), however it definately has a higher fat content.

Duck fat is delicous. Don't worry about it.

So, the answer is yes. You do want to try duck; it's a great treat.

well, i wish i could have tried the duck, but before me and my friend were gonna go order it, we decided to go to one of our favorite drinking spots and get nice and liquored up. we took about 2 drinks off our fifth and outta nowhere some gang bangers came up with a gun and robbed us for our cell phones and money, oh and booze :( fuckin bastards ruined our chance to try it. i hope they get alcohol poisoning from that liquor they took from us

Duck is buff, I don't think i've ever had it in a way that wasn't buff.

Crispy peking duck is fucking awesome

I've been shooting at ducks for years, and I've learned that nobody really knows how to prepare it well, but that well prepared duck is fucking delicious. It is a very gamey bird, and everybody has their own way of preparing it. I met an old man whose wife HATED duck season, because he swore the only way to prepare good duck was to hang them, upside down, somewhere cool and dry (his basement) for at least a week. And I've met people who swear all you have to do is marinade it for a bit, fry it up, and bam delicious.

I've tasted both, and everything in between, and I've come to the conclusion that is really is just random. Try duck somewhere, and try it again and again at more and more places, and you'll see. Sometimes its fantastic, best meal you've had. Sometimes you'd prefer squirrel (which I find is rather similar to duck). Sometimes its worth eating, sometimes not. Always worth shooting at though. Because even if you miss, you're still drinking beer with someone worth drinking beer with. And in a canoe, even better. Ducks not withstanding, you're drinking with friends while canoing. Bam.

Duck has a good meaty flavour, it's enjoyable, but it's not that special.

But yeah, worth a try.
