View Full Version : Hooking PC up to TV
What would be the simplest way to convert the VGA/DVI from my computer into coax/RCA for an older TV?
I looked up some wireless stuff on new egg, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way.
TV I have is an old larger CRT with nothing but coax and RCA.
How do you totseans do it?

Install a video card that supports composite (RCA) or F59 (coax) output.

Woh. Shit. But-
Bah.
I was always looking in newegg's tv tuners and video devices catagory.
Slipped my mind that a video card might still have it.
And a PCI Express 2.0 x16 at that!

Though...I guess I have one more question.
If I were to start with this card, and upgrade later to a real gaming card, could I still have both in and running at once, but use the better ones for games, and have this one output at the same time?

probably depends on your motherboard's slots.
Will it support 2 PCI-E cards?
I'm just guessing.

Ok, so let me get this straight...
You either want to have your PC output to a TV... so you can use your TV like a big low-res monitor...
or you want your TV/Cable to be input into the PC for recording purposes?
First one is easy and is supported by most video cards... a simple s-video cable will hook into the yellow plug on your TV.
The second one, you need a TV capture card, which is anywhere from $50 to $350

Do what i do.
I got one NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP 8x card and one TV Tuner card.
My Graphic card supports the common Antenna cable and i can easily take the cable from my system to my TV which is downstairs and make it my second monitor.
basically, what i am trying to tell you is that get a Graphic card that supports the TV out feature period.

you'll need a converter or converting cable to change the multi-pin S video singal to the yellow 2 pin RCA plug ... but Hit-The-Bong is right, S video jacks are pretty common on video cards these days. And such converting cables are pretty cheap.
I wanted to be able to use my TV as a monitor, and it only has RCA/coax at the moment.
And thanks, I understand it a bit better now.
