So, been downloading some torrents, i think it was need for speed undercover. Anyways, now i've got some virus of some sorts closing my windows explorer constantly, opening it up again.. repeat.

I ran both AVG and Avast, neither found a thing (although avast did find like 6 other viruses...)

i figure if i can't find a solution i'm gonna take the lame route and just reformat. i've been wanting vista, now i have a reason.

Try ZoneAlarm Firewall. It might be of some help, if only in locating the virus or giving more information on it which could then be googled and possibly a solution found?

Despite what people say about vista, i've never encountered a problem with it on any other computers (aside from those that barely meet requirements.)

i'll try zone alarm

Spybot search and destroy. And CCleaner to clean up the mess.

Are you sure it's a virus?
I've had explorer crash on me countless times...

Explorer doesn't usually open, the crash before loading, open up again, repeat..

i found some Vundo virus, removed it and used Cleanup! seems to have solved the problem.

Make sure to check your Startup sequence. Don't want something firing up next time you boot, and starting this whole process again.

Win+R > Msconfig > 'Startup'
