I went to see a Mk2 Cortina today, 2 door model, for restoration. The guy had another Mk2 and the crazy bastard had put an RV8 in there :D but it looked completely standard except for the banded steels and slightly dropped ride height (still had the original hubcaps though)

I like too many cars to be able to really single some out.... a few that come to mind are the Viper (personal fave), the SSC ultimate aero (I don't care what anyone says) and the Lotus 7 and Caterham(s).... although they are not so much sexy as just awesome. Jag D, E types, early racing ferraris, Group B and other assorted rally cars.... which are not supermodel sexy they're more like that cute chick that shares all your interests and you end up marrying her.

IMO, these are pretty whack, really expensive ($80k+ for a prettied up vette, with about the same power as a base vette 320hp stock, the xlr-v has 440hp but is around $100k for an underperforming vette, thats zr-1 money). i really hate convertible hardtops too, they have the most awkward proportions. i would rather take a vette over this. and its why the e46 'vert looks better than the e93 'vert. also convertible hardtops take up a shit-ton of trunk space. like this volvo c70 for example:

However, I don't believe that's been the case for a while, of course the US has made a few nice cars since the 80s, but I think if you look at the average car produced these days in the US, and compare them to European or Japanese cars, they look awful.

Good thing you put the "I think" disclaimer at the beginning. The average car produced in the US and Europe is meh, the average Japanese car is FUGLY. The Japanese think if you throw a bunch of lines and acute angles together until it looks like a star wars fucking space ship, it's sexy. Or they try the complete lack of lines or angles (see SC430,) and it's even worse. They have no sense of style, period.

Scoobies are gorgeously awful though. I think recently though, for the past 20-30 years, US mainstream cars have just looked like a bland copy of European or Japanese style, in the same way Japan and Europe copied the US years ago.

90% of the time, discussions on styling are just semantics. It's like music, it all comes down to personal preference until occasionally something comes along that EVERYONE hates, like Kevin Federline or the Chevy Aveo.

That said, I hate most new styling. Everything is just rounded. Trunks got tall and disappeared into the back of the overall bubble shape that makes up almost all mainstream cars now. "Sporty" now consists of some plastic on the front and a plastic wing perched on top of the obscenely high and short trunk lid. Interiors are just ugly as fuck in new American cars, and they're ALL made out of the same cheap black plastic. Center consoles have gotten so thick that they actually cut down on interior room, and doors have gotten so tall you can't comfortably rest your arm on the windowsill anymore.

I think the Lincoln Town Car is sexy, and any car with a big big luxurious interior like the BMW 7 series, Lexus LS, Cadillac DTS, and shit like that. But like, really, I like Range Rovers, droptop Jags, Big body bentleys and phantoms, especially the drophead, and i don't care what you say the XLR-V looks sexy as fuck in person with the top dropped. Only the V though. the XLR is like a Boxster, shit..

It's interesting because I never said the 996 is ugly. Except you can obviously read my mind because the 996 is a disgrace. The shape is fine, but it has those retardedly over-designed headlamps, and the turbo has these huge square holes up front that are nothing short of unpleasant. Then there are the standard wheels, which are incredibly generic and make the whole look worse. If it wasn't for the GT3, the whole 996 line-up would be nothing but dogs.

Now, if you had said "997", I would agree whole-heartedly that it's a sexy looking thing, much MUCH nicer than the 996, so much cleaner and prettier. And they've suddenly remembered how to make good looking wheels again.

The 2010 looks decent, but I don't think there's ever been a Porsche lacking that Porsche grace than the original Boxster or Boxster S. Not even the 944 looks as slow.
