View Full Version : Please recommend a lunch for a factory worker.
Hello all, recently I began work at a new job. Printing facility, factory, whatever. Regardless I spend 12 hours per night (5 p.m. till 5 a.m.) at work, four nights each week, and need some lunch to get me through that time.
The requirements:
Shouldn't have to be refrigerated - no refrigerator available.
Must be preparable and edible quickly, as I don't get much time.
Must be somewhat nutritious as I'm trying to avoid eating like crap.
Must fit into a moderately sized lunchbox. About 8" x 8" x 4"
sandwhich
chips
drink
ice pack
sorry I can't be more helpful but that's pretty standard, maybe leftovers or whatever.
-A banana for the potassium boost.
-Sandwich.
-Granola bar.
-Salad of any sort.
Pick up some little plastic containers to use as storage.
A mini-cooler will come in handy for storing food and drinks.

I usually have a vegemite and cheese sandwich on grain bread and a banana, sometimes an apple as well.
Oh and a milo.

LMFAO! So much for knowing for a fact that you earn more than I. You're a fucking painter.
anyway I think coffee is pretty good, check out starbucks for a nice brew. also blow energy drink mix is great for when you need a huge boost of energy, lord knows you're going to need it watching paint dry.

sandwiches of course.
i personally like devon or tuna as the meat product, pickles, lettuce or cheese as extras and mayo or horseradish cream as a sauce. black pepper as a seasoning
steer away from tomatoes and other soggy foods though

There's no such thing as a nutritious lunch, he should take a multivitamin if he is concerned with that.

as long as you pack things like tomatoes and lettuce in seperate baggies and make the sandwich when it's time to eat you should be fine. The like goes for a tune fish or chicken salad sandwich. put the tuna or chicken in a small container and wait to put it on the bread until you want to eat it.
Soup is an excellent option, if you're willing to invest in a thermos.

Fry or BBQ up a few chicken breasts for the week. Take one a day w/ rice or salad. Put spices on one, BBQ sauce on the other, etc.

Including your half-assed "coffee and a multivitamin" suggestion.

Uh, not really, that was the best suggestion so far. Coffee, multivitamin and some pasta if he wants to fill his stomach. That's about all a proletariat like dcksckr can hope to enjoy.

Actually I quite enjoy these. There was a thread in Hb a while back dedicated to poking fun at my username; most of the posts were quite amusing.
What are you going with for lunches?

Apart from being fucking bland that would fail to provide adequate nutritional value.

A 'hardy' man knows how to make a hardy soup. If you can't eat your soup off a plate, your doing it wrong;)

i take it 'lunch' is a generic term for food whilst not at home, instead of the hours 12-2.30

Pretty much. My schedule is, err, obviously "off."
Essentially my 5 a.m. feels to me what 7 p.m. probably feels like for everyone else.
Regardless I've been eating a lot of PB&J and bananas and it's getting old quick. We might be getting a fridge in my work area so that'll be great, I can take tuna salad, leftovers etc. with me.

To me, lunch just comes up around halfway through the shift, no matter what time it is. Today I ate "lunch" at 3:30 pm.
Heh, it's so cold outside that you could just leave your lunch in the car and it would stay "refrigerated."
I never get sick of my turkey/ham/bologna sandwiches I pack for myself, just because by the time I get to eat it I am starving and anything would taste good. Shit always tastes better at work.
