Hey guys,

Didnt want to upgrade my full PC until the i7's came down in price in a few months or so..but this..may drive me crazy.

Using an Asus a8n-sli deluxe, and the fan on the board seems to be dying. Its making a stupidly loud noise - but if I put my finger close to it, just enough to slow it down abit, it sounds fine.

How important is the mobo fan? Will I absolutely fry the thing if I disconnect it?

Tiny little fan...unless someone knows where I can get a new one? Not sure what kind of connection it uses - looks like a 3pin female end from what I can gather..

That tiny fan cools the Northbridge chip. It is needed - if you unplug it, it'll overheat and probably die.

If it's noisy, take it off and drop a bit of light oil in the bearing in the back. Also, tighten the screws.

maybe you can rig up a slightly bigger fan to replace it.
One that spins slower, is quieter, but moves the same or even more air.
