Apply using commonapp.com or whatever.... You should type in your scores. You may want to apply before the end of the month. Also fill out your FAFSA form. that's important if you wanna be able to afford it. State schools are cheaper.. Private schools give better financial aid but are generally pricier.

Any reason why I should by the end of the month?

Are you a senior in high school right now?

If so, what the fuck have you been doing? Just sitting there drooling off into space while your counselor tells your classmates all about the process?

Sigh.

What kind of school do you see yourself going to? Something cheap and in state? A community college first? An expensive ass private school in a fairy tale land?

Do you have a major in mind yet or no? If not, you should go to a school that has a wide variety of majors, and those are usually big ass state universities.

95% of schools will accept either the SAT or ACT, but you should make sure the schools you plan to apply to (I recommend at least 3) will accept whichever one you decide to take. You are completely incompetent waiting so late to take a test. College applications should be completed before December 1 of your senior year. The later you wait to apply, the less scholarship money is available, and the lower your chances of getting in are, if that's an issue.

So, Step 1: go on the ACT or SAT website, pay the $50 or whatever it is, and register for the next available test date. Hell it may not be until fucking February. Go on the school websites and see if they will let you submit an application, promising to send test scores later. But you may have to wait until you get your score.

Go to see your counselor and run in his office crying, and you shall get help and one on one instruction. Luckily for you, a lot of schools do rolling admissions (no deadline until all spots are filled basically) or have really late deadlines in the late spring or early summer. But you should be done by now, really.

And th next ones are in February and January. Is that too late to apply to colleges?

I would say take the earliest one possible. Normally in the beginning of the test they will ask you if you want copies of the results sent to any colleges, there you should put down whatever schools you plan on applying to (I think there is a section on the SATs for this, I don't really remember I took the SATs five years ago).

What schools are you looking at and what are you interested in majoring in?

No, it's not too late, it's just late. You should register...today. The spots can fill up, and you don't want to get fucked like that.

Now about your major...

^Hey man, I know I was supposed to tell something about my friend and how he got so much aid...

First thing: his parents don't claim as a dependent even though he lives at home. He "pays" his parents rent, either through cash or doing shit around the home.

He also talked to the aid counselors at the school he went to, explained his situation and they helped him set up all sorts of low interest loans and such through the government. Dunno if that helped but I remember you asked and I never told you.

Heh. I've taken the SAT's twice (three times if you count the SAT I in 7th grade, but that was a special opportunity)

However, I've been completely baffled as far as colleges go. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I only recently applied. I have a plan to apply to a few more soon, but it's kinda late.

I want to be a computer component engineer, like work for nVidia or Intel and work on designing/engineering chips/components. Originally I wanted to be a software engineer, but I'm pretty sure being stuck in a cubicle all the time would drive me insane. I would enjoy having time for lab work.

So I guess I need a computer science degree or some shit?

Computer engineering if possible. Some schools only have comp. sci., but if you want to get a good job (i.e. one with nvidia) you won't go to one of those schools.

Take a look at your target schools' websites (you do have a list of target schools, right?) to see if they'll accept that or if you're too late. Give us your interests and achievements and we'll figure something out for you.

Freshmen who rank in the top three quarters of their class and whose high school rank and test scores place them near the assured admission requirement, may be eligible for an individual Predicted Academic Success (PAS) review. A limited number of students whose academic record demonstrates potential for academic success at Texas State University-San Marcos will be offered admission. Spaces are typically allotted by mid-March.
Does that mean I wouldn't be late?

Yeah you'll be fine, but get it in as early as possible.

Just make sure you don't miss the application deadline for your schools; most for regular decision are going to be between January 1 and February 15. Contact the schools to see if they will accept your application with your SAT scores pending. Also, start thinking about an essay you can write; at this point, you should just focus on writing a general essay you can send to all your schools. Find out if the schools have an additional writing supplement you have to complete along with the essay.

I don't know what else to tell you...but good luck.

I applied in the spring and still got in for the fall semester. If you plan on going in state, go here (https://www.applytexas.org/).
