Hi?

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but, what is the opposite of the lyrics? As in, you know how a song is made up of the words ( aka the lyrics) and the actual music part? My question is what is the proper name for this "music" part? Melody? The beat? Or what.

Thanks.

It's called the accompaniment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accompaniment The beat, counter melodies or melodies, timbre, rhythm, and phrasing all fall under the category of accompaniment. It would not be the beat at all, because the sung words or "lyrics" also fall into beat. It would not be melody at all either, because usually the sung part is the melody (although the accompaniment can take the melody at times as well) You worded this question very poorly by the way, because the singing is not the lyrics, the lyrics are the actual written words that go with what is being sung, and what is being sung is the MELODY or LEAD. as I said.
