Apparently ps3's made anywhere can play any region of games...
So i want to buy a ps3 and im wondering whether buying a chinese one (its cheaper) will mean i get a shit ps3....
So what are the differences....?

I think the games aren't region coded but blu-ray movies are.

The only thing I have to base it on is my copy of Burnout Paradise is region 3.

As in, I don't know if they are or not, but i'm more swayed to they aren't.

This is true.

Why are dvds and other movie media region coded anyways? Is there reason for this pointless crap? Or is it just to annoy the living fuck out of people who buy movies when they're on vacation or have shit flow over they can't buy locally... :o

You thought correctly.
I thought the whole point of Blu-Ray was that the disc was big enough to add all languages so they wouldn't have to region code it?

The region coding is to make it harder to buy movies overseas where they don't charge as much.

Right, a major electronics manufacturer took a step to save its customers money, reduce the amount of hassle they deal with, and make it easier for them to duplicate their products. Happens all the time.
Also, I'd bet that the difference between a real PS3 and the average Chinese-made one is that the Chinese one consists wholly of hollow fucking plastic.

The Chinese one is most likely a fake rip off.
Don't buy one for the same reason you don't buy an ipod from china.

PROTIP: Don't but anything from China unless it comes with the type of meal you most likely buy for yourself

There is no difference between a chinese PS3 and an American model... All are the same and made with the same material. The only problem you would have is playing the games... Since you would have to also get the chinese versions =)

I bet there's a way to hack it to get the American encoding on the Chinese PS3. :)
I have an amerikkan ps3
my dvds don't work on it
neither do my ps2 games
and if I were to buy blu ray from the uk they wouldn't work either
but yeah the games all work finee and such like
