My sound works just fine on linux but not at all on vista. I need to use vista for a few weeks for work/school and its annoying not having sound.

No idea what the card is, but its a dell dimension 4600 and the drivers on the dell site wont install on vista no matter how hard I try.

So, can I get some broad universal drivers that work for basically everything kinda like in linux?

Vista isn't picking up anything. I get a "No audio devices installed" error in the sound settings and an unkown PCI Input device in the device manager.

All I sound have to do is type "yum install alsa-lib alsa-utils"
Fucking vista. Why can't everything be simple like linux.

The people at dell are a bunch of fucknuts. They will tell me that vista is not supported for this machine and tell me to go fuck myself. They can't do anything except read out of a prewritten manual.

But thanks for trying...

When you're in Linux do an lspci and you'll be able to find out what chipset your audio device is using. From there, you should be able to narrow your search a bit.

A Dell 4600? Running Vista? That shit better not be stock...

I used to have a Dell 4600... it's like a 2003 computer. I know it had a Creative SB Live sound card in it.
