I got this idea while looking at an original GT40.
If one could somehow get molds for body panels for a GT40, and somehow get a chassis to model one off of, could one possibly make an identical copy of the GT40 minus the engine?
In place of the engine, since the original or even a copy might be impossible to get a hold of. One could just use a 4.6 Powertrain from a Mustang, upped to around the same power.
I'm guessing that this idea would take ~75,000 to get off the ground and get going, what do you guys think?

Well, judging on the other 192,212,232,230 GT40 kit car builders who've had this "brilliant" business idea, your half arsed kit car company will go belly up and you'll never see a dime of profit..
...if you even get if off the ground in the first place. Succinctly: that's a fucking stupid career move. If you want to make your dreams come true, don't quit your fucking day job. In fact, get another one, so you can bankroll building a Countach in your basement, or a steel bodied twin turbo V8 Reventon in your back yard.
For all the money you'll make with a 'Full time job manufacturing and making kit cars' you may as well be a professional solicitor.. ..of hookers. At least you'll have a better time of it.

You all do have good points.
Cowboys, I agree with what you say, anyone who does quit their day job for an idea like this is, in fact, a retard.
I remember reading about someone who did this, and what you just described happened. They went broke, and ended up in serious debt.
I just had an idea, and hey.

I think working for a kit car company would be pretty good fun, but an established one like Caterham, Westfield, Dax........... Dutton........ Ultima........ Pilgrim, Ginetta if they are still around... and that's all I can remember off the top of my head
Dax make an awesome AC Cobra Coupe (at least I think it's Dax)
Oh, Panther too, they make kit cars. Ugly ones though.

I had a idea of making Kit Cars a few years ago. I still think it would work.
I did start (sorta) buy starting to make a GoKart...out of trampoline tubing.
What I wanted to do was make a car like this (Suzuki Fronte)http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/14/Suzuki_Fronte_Coupe_001.JPG
Using a space frame of alloy tubing. For the body it would be plastic (rotational molded) like this. Using recycled plastic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotational_molding
It would be similar to a Motorcycle helmet in safety & light as hell.
By DIY you can make the finished shape anything you want to.
Mouse shape, Cat shape, Lamborghini shape, Mustang shape, Motorcycle helmet shape....
Next would be programming a computer to change it for every different driver, seat position etc etc, even the dashboard (digital or analogue, layout etc) the corner lights (LEDS) would only have one wire going to them (power wire) as the control of it would be by fibre optics.
