does your state do inspections? because thats going to fail. you could take it to a muffler shop and they should be able to fix it for 50 to 75 bucks. using good pipe and welding it properly.
duct tape would melt, and smoke up, creating a nasty mess in the process. i've seen ghetto rigged stuff with aluminum cans and metal clamps, but thats not going to pass inspection.
aight, yo

Can you be a little more specific as to where it broke? Did it break in the middle of the pipe or did it come loose where it was welded to the cat or muffler?
Ditto to what red_eyed_wonda & AP2k said.
Duct tape is just going to melt.
If it's just a section of pipe that's <1ft you can maybe go up to Autozone or other auto parts place and get a flexible pipe (this (http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,90210/initialAction,accessoryProductDetail/initialR,438058/shopping/selectZip.htm)) and some clamps and cut out and replace the bad section. However, in my experience, it can be damn near impossible to get those clamps to make a perfect seal with that flexible pipe.
Or you could maybe try one of these exhaust rapair kits (http://www.autozone.com/A,true/N,100436/shopping/accessoriesResults.htm)

The fucked up part of this is that my dad actually did that once, with a tin can and some exhaust clamps.

Dat's only in the mowwnin..
...speaking of which. It's bang on 7:00am so I probably "shud be up cookin brekfass or sumthnn".
English breakfast w/ tea sounds good, minus the black pudding. Can't remember what you need for one though.
Two bangers, a goog (runny & sunny side up), chips to dip into the running centre of the goog, lots of butter fried field mushrooms, baked beans, two slices of toast, a small portion of steak, a couple rashes of bacon, and some tomato - all cooked on the barbie, and a cup of tea. Sound about right Brits?

Just do what I did to my truck. Chop the muffler and cat off, and run a straight pipe. It'll be loud as hell, and won't pass a smog test, but it'll work.... I'm running dual 3-inchers on my 95 F-150.
Duct tape? Are you serious? Just think about that for a second you idiot.

Wrapping it in aluminum foil with hose clamps would be better than duct tape

If you put enough on, it will melt then get almost rock hard and if it doesn't melt off or crack, it should seal it a little bit...I have seen it work before on this truck that some dude committed suicide in. he shoved a piece of that flexible exhaust pipe over the tailpipe then duck taped it all together and it didn't leak...I know because I had to clean the inside where he leaked all over the place.
