I am wondering how I could go about designing an antenna for my local police band. I see tons of plans for regular FM radio receivers, but no info on how to adjust the antenna for higher frequencies, or if the radio's are even capable of handling them.
Thanks for any input

since unfortunately the only thing that's pure in this world is shit and piss, you might need to spend a lot of money. it would be kinda complicated to build one. i couldn't find any reliable stuff on how to build one.. just a bunch of fake ways that involve cell phones and nacho cheese..

You probably already know this but: X amount of wire determines how well you're going to receive X frequency.

Try googling about making antennas, maybe you'll get more ideas for your project.

certainly UK police and emergency services now use TETRA systems, which work on the GSM network, provided by O2, for complete gps / telementary and comms purposes. It is not sniffable, without being at O2's end of everything.

If the US still does not have a digital system in place, they need to stop liberating the fuck outta everywhere and spend a bit of coinage instead buying digital and quality radios for their guys on the ground who might actually save some lives when terrorist attacks happen.
