You probably know the deal. The Flying Spaghetti Monster KNOWS it happens all the time at my fucking high school. "Cyberbullying" is now an offense punishable in my school. Kids have been penalized for comments they made about other kids on Facebook...OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. Recently, one kid made a group saying "fuck this fuck that fuck fuck fuck" because his friend got suspended for five days for cutting in the lunch line (the cops were also called to remove him from the cafeteria). The kid who made the group got a "talking to" and was forced to remove any "offensive" material in the description. He then made a group called "Fuck (high school name here)." He got suspended for 5 days and his parents are pulling him out of public school and sending him to an alternative school.

My question is: what the fuck? Can schools even be doing this? I can hardly believe this is happening. I mean, it's one thing if kids are logging on and posting questionable shit during school hours, but what the FUCK happened to freedom of speech?

I know that if it's a private school they can really do whatever the fuck they want in terms of discipline for whatever reason they want. Public schools however, I thought were supposed to be a little more lax.
I know that something like this rule was in my student handbook/code or whatever my senior year, which i hadn't seen any other year. It said something like any activity involving students brought to the attention of staff through the use of internet networking sites will be dealt with at the discretion of the administration. Pretty much leaving it up in the air as to what they can do. Public school, btw.

If its bullying then the school can get involved, even when it takes place outside of school. It doesn't make too much sense to me. It should be the parents' responsibility. But I guess they can do this stuff because they can cite that it poses a danger to other students at school or some other reason. They shouldn't be able to do it but they do.

My friend got in trouble by this rule in middle school when he beat up some kid that was basically asking for it. Some how the school found out about it and he was suspended for a few days.

If this happened off campus the school canīt do anything unless it occured on the way to or from school. In that case they are liable and do have jurisdiction.
