I'm sorry if this doesn't belong here or is frowned upon.

Anyway, I recently finished downloading a torrent file which uses the MKV video format. I'm pretty much a noob as far as formats go but as much as i have searched on the web, i can't find a single free MKV to AVI converter. I must have downloaded about 4 different programs in hope of one allowing me convert videos longer than one minuet but to no avail.

So if anyone on &T happens to know of a good, free converter or other solution please let me know :D

You don't need to convert anything. Media player classic and VLC are both free video players that will play.mkv (matroska) video files. Or you can download codecs to play .mkv in the media player of your choice.

The main reason i wanted to convert the files was because i want to play them on my xbox which doesn't support that format.
