Sorry to not provide a link, but I'll answer the tranny question.
No 700r4. It's a terrible transmission. I've driven a car with a 700r4 and a TH350, and the 350 was phenomenal and the 700 was terrible.

sounds like im getting myself into somthing a bit over my head ... custom motor mounts i can deal with welding i can deal with cutting apart parts of the firewall i can do to but i have never honestly done rear end work and never done a full engine swap by myself before.. i have always either had help or it was just a bolt in swap...
advice / tips ? maybe suggestions to somthing a bit easyer ??
im still thinking the L46 350 but im having some trouble even locating one

It's going to be a nightmare to do it this way. Do you know how many used V8 S-10's there are sitting all around the country for mere peanuts?
Why don't you start with an original V8 ute to begin with mate.
Even if you end up having to fork out a little bit on top to get the V8 version, I rekon it'll come out cheaper in the end too. That might not be the help you're looking for, but it's a suggestion because I can't see a whole lot of logic behind your current plan. That's just not sane.

within the last week I did an engine swap with some friends on my '81 chevy s-10. I took out the old 400c.i., sent it to an engiene shop and had them bore it out to a 427 and put a 3/4 cam and aluminum heads in it. It took two long days with myself, dad, brother, and a diesel mechanic (friend).
I wish I could help you out more but I did a v8 - v8 swap not v6 - v8. I don't know if you have access to the right equipment, but from my recent experience I've come to the conclusion that it can make you're life easy. We could've had it running in a single day if I hadn't been missing a pulley and had all of the proper bolts.
The end product is the vehicle with the worst mpg i have seen. I'm not too sure that I can even get 260 miles in that thing on 32 gallons of fuel.
Good luck.
