Ok so lately I've been drinking beer with ice due to it being summer time in Australia and my beer goes warm within a few minutes. In my opinion I hate drinking beer with ice, because it waters it down so much but I really don't have much of an option.

What is your opinion on this?

I personally don't drink ANY beer with ice. The only ones for which it might even be close to appropriate are macro lagers, most of which you won't catch me drinking anyways. Generally my favorite brews are red ales and porters which taste best at a slightly warm temperature to begin with.

That's funny the first time I saw somebody drink beer with ice was on holiday in Vietnam a few years back, this Aussie bloke ordered a Tiger and then dispensed it on ice, pretty much like people drink Magners in the summertime in the UK.

I had never seen anyone do that, so I just basically copied him and I have to say that it did feel pretty good, it was really warm and I was really thirsty and sweaty.

Now I occasionaly do it in the summer when it's really warm, I obviously only do it with commercial lager, but I think it's a great way of having a mildly alcoholic thirst quencher without getting a headache.

I don't know but if I drink beer in under the sun I usually tend to get a headache quite fast, drinking beer with ice seems to prevent this, probably because it lowers the alcohol content and the melted ice also keeps you more hydrated.

We have the warm beer problem usually at parties.

I use what I call a "makeshift beer cup", that's one cup filled with ice and then the cup with beer inside the one with ice. You can't really do that in a pub though.

Lolwut, all you Australians have those cute little foam beercooler thingies anyway, what's the point of bothering with ice? If it's COLD it's not going to warm up in a few minutes, unless it's unbelievably boiling, in which case, tough titty.

I've probably done it before anyway, but I wouldn't bother on a regular basis. I'll drink cider with ice sometimes though, especially if it's hot. Goes down a treat. Personally I don't find a beer has to be freezing cold to be nice, although obviously it makes it nice n smooth, n is preferable to a warm one! :)

The standard of living over there isn't as low as people seem to think, most of them are rich and live in normal homes with flashy cars, especially Lagos since it's the main city full of entrepreneurs and businesses (all scam artists on the side). A lot of bribery and corruption over there though.

I know a fair bit about the country because I used to talk to fellow scam artists from there back when I used to scam.

Under foreign export yes, they do brew it over there as well as many other countries.

If you're drinking a potent ale about 9-10% ABV then its pretty clever to mix it with ice.

what you do is get an esky,
and put the beers in the ice, with some water in it as well

or get ice water
leave the beer can or long neck in for a while

then it should be cold enough to down it without it getting warm.

I already wrote this in another thread, but if you need to cool bottles or cans down but don't want to water down your drink with ice, if you just put the bottles or cans in a bowl with a lot of ice, some water and a bunch of salt, and mix it around for a few minutes, the salt lowers the freezing point of the water and it makes your drinks cold in a minute or two.

they don't make 8oz bottles down there? those are really great in the summer, they stay cold till empty..

I went to Dublin a few years ago, and in a bar just on the north bank of the Liffey, I witnessed the single most disturbing thing I've ever seen. A woman, I believe she was German, was drinking Guinness with ice cubes from a fucking STRAW! I've seen 2g1c, 1g1j etc, but nothing will ever make my eyes bleed in that same manner. It was fucking awful.

A couple of years ago in Kenya, I experienced how our western need of cold beer is artificial. Kenyans drink their Tusker (as well as that completely awful Nigerian Guinness mentioned above) at room temperature. It's awful in the beginning, but when you get used to the increased bitterness, it's a whole new world of beer-tasting opening up. It's kind of practical as well.

Back to the subject, i despise anyone who'd RUIN their beer by adding water. Unless, of course, the beer is Carling, Foster's, Carlsberg, or some other white liquid that doesn't even deserve to be called beer.

You guys take yourselvs way too seriously, there's nothing wrong with adding some ice in beer if it's warm as hell and the beer you're watering down is shitty piss to begin with.

Tub of alcohol and dry ice. Give it 1 minute. Cool beer. I've yet to try it but I plan on it; supposedly it works.

Eskies were invented for a reason. Keep the beer in the can/bottle, and just stick it back into the ice after each drink, or buy a nifty little invention called a stubby holder.(or even the freezable ones :))

Depending on your state, most beer comes in the 375ml, 750ml or 2L variety :)
