View Full Version : Microsoft owns my life
I'm not really complaining. Thinking back it's just interesting how well-integrated I've become with technology over the past few years.
My phone runs Windows Mobile, and connects to my company's Exchange and SharePoint servers. My email, contacts and schedules are automatically synced with my phone and laptop, running Vista. I use Microsoft Live Mesh to synchronize documents and other data. My laptop is a Tablet PC, I write down and organize all of my notes through Office OneNote, in addition to using other applications within Office to compose other documents. My browser is Internet Explorer, my IM app is Windows Live Messenger.
I suppose all of this is a matter of habit, but I've definitely become much more productive. These days I spend less time than ever before online, since most of my scheduling and such is automated.
How would you say the commercialization of technology has affected you? Microsoft, Google, Apple... advantages and disadvantages?

Polar opposite. I avoid things by Microsoft, not because I hate MS but because I love open standards. I run Ubuntu on all my computers with XP or Vista Dual boot for the one-off time I have something Windows to do. I own a Windows Mobile Phone which I am ditching for Android.
IMO Google is a far better company to get in bed with than Microsoft.

What software do you guys use to organise and manage all those licenses?
I'm sure that HP manages all of the software licenses for offline or client software on the laptops.
For Exchange they just buy enough CALs for all users. It's not that expensive.
Also, I bought a Nokia E71 today... it seems their email software works better than pocket Outlook. I've never been much of a Windows Mobile fan.

If I am bored, my Ipod or PSP will do the tricks, with thousands of songs and videos which I downloaded from the internet downloaded onto them.
My O2 ice mobile is connected to its blue-tooth.
At home my Ipod is connected to me PS3 by its cable, and connected to my cyber chair by another tangling wire, pumping out Put a Donk on it right now actually.
My computer is connected to the internet, downloading me pirated movie' books and games.
The internet connects me to other people, I talk to people I would never have met without the internet, and I keep in touch with my IRL friends easier :P
My pc syncs up with my ipod.
A 8gb USB hangs around my neck, allowing to interface my files with any pc I choose.
Basically, I just feel connected to technology all the time. It rules :D
