My brother is getting a Wii for Christmas and wants to add a mod chip to it. His friend at college installed something on his unit which allowed him to play games that werent burnt onto a CD from his computer. My brother wants to do that, but he no longer has the contact info for his friend from school. I thought I could help my brother out and looked online and found a ton of MOD chips and have no idea which I need and what ones work at what ones dont.

He's looking for something that can be easily installed, without soldering, if possible? I saw a video on youtube of a solderless mod, but I dont know if its legit or not.

What is the recommended method of modifying your Wii so that it can play these burnt games, and once I do have the mod installed, what software do I need to burn the media?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Thanks for the link. I'll look into them. Is there a difference between Wiikey and Wiikey2? I assume 2 is just an undapted MOD chip? Also, once the MOD chip is installed, do I pretty much just find an image on bit torrent, download and burn it? do they have to be burnt to cd's or DVDs? Sorry, I have no experience with any of this stuff, and I can't seem to find a good n00b FAQ online about it. All I have to go by is what my brother said: "you just put in the burnt cd and it lets you play games without having to purchase the game".

My friend got some sort of a isoloader that allows him to download the game and burn it to a dvd disc and they work. Don't know the name of the isoloaderbut ill ask him tomorrow for a good site.

Do you have a 1 or 2? Did you install it yourself? Was it the solderless install? What is the update process like once you've installed the chip to prevent the console from bricking? And finally, do you use DVD-R or +R? I can't seem to find any good FAQ about this.

wiikey 1, had a buddy solder it because I can't keep a steady hand. 6 solder points, the fuckers are tiny you WILL fuck it up if you have no experience. I just upgraded the firmware to 1.9g think there's a new one out. +R's at 1x write speed, but I don't think that really matters.

Oh and I installed an off switch for when brawl came out, wiikey didn't have dual layer support for legitimate games, so had to do that with the copy that I actually bought.
