So Guns N Roses, well mostly Axl...came out with this CD like 19 years in the making....

Has anyone heard it? Would it be worth my time to buy it/download it from a torrent?

does it live up to any of the hype?

NOTHING could live up to a 14year/multi million dollar hype.

But imho, it isn't bad. Axl is great songwriter after all.

If your one of the people who expect great things from this record and believe it to be the second coming of jesus you will be dissapointed.

But if, however, you go in with a curious but indifferent mind, you may very well be pleasantly surprised.

It was worth the $20 price tag at JB.

The first couple of songs felt like Axl was singing on a slightly toned down Buckethead album and i totally digged it.

But im not you, theres no way to tell if you'll like it.

You'll probably hate it, its cool to hate on &t afterall.

May i suggest the latest Extreme album. very cool album indeed... if you like Extreme

Well I liked the old G N R stuff....

I was just worried that over such a long period of time Axl's voice would start to well....dissipate from it's former awesomeness....

I'll probably end up buying it, I'm in need of something new to listen to, and the local bands just arent cutting it....

have any favs on the album?

For the record, if you were really into old GnR and decided not to buy the album because you heard some shitty quality leak, think again. The album sounds awesome and no myspace stream or crappy mp3 can speak for it.

Chinese democracy has grown on me more and more. Sure its over produced as fuck, everything is super glossy, and at times it sounds like theres just to much going on in each track. (example: on Streets of Dreams theres a part where the vocal track starts only in the left monitor and slowly moves to the right) Axl has a terrific sense of harmony and melody and it feels like he tried to fit to much into each song. All the songs change their feel at least once.
Also at some parts theres a "what the fuck" moment, like why would Axl put this guitar part here or why does that drum track sound the way it does, but give it a second listen and you may change your mind.

Does it live up to the hype? No
Is it worth what it cost to make it? Maybe to Axl, but not anyone else.

Most of the guitar parts are face melting, and the whole album is arranged beautifully. At first I thought the song writing was subpar compared to Axls older songs but even the lyrics have grown on me a bit.

I dont know, Guns and Roses changed my fucking life when I was 13. Axl is one of my favorite musicians and I will (probably) continue to follow everything he does. When you listen to it dont think of old GnR because its not that. Its Axl's child. Something completely different. It wont change any lives, the way AFD did.

Just like the Illusion albums? Lol.

Just like the Illusion albums? Lol.

The illusion albums seems sparse and underpopulated compared with CD. But it's still a half decent album. There Was a Time is probably the hightlight of the album. It's an exceptional song. The title track, followed by Schackler's Revenge and Better are radiohead friendly(ish) tracks that are half decent. And the industrial sounding Scraped is a decent highlight. However everything else is either fairly forgettable or downright poor (This I Love is a hirrible horrible song).
Worth downloading. Not worth buying.

Torrent it. If you like it, go buy a copy to support the artist.

You mean go buy a copy so Geffen can recoup their 13 million..

I like pretty much all the tracks. My favorites are Chinese Democracy, Better, If The World, and IRS.
I think This I Love is better then Prostitute.

In my opinion the only reason Guns N' Roses is worth listening to is that epic guitar wailing thing slash always did.

Hate what I've heard of it. It's my opinion that Axl had his funding cut, realized he couldn't live how he wanted any longer without that support and had to tour and finally release the thing...the most rushed sounding CD that took over a decade to make ever...

My brother referred to Chinese Democracy as "Use your Illusion III" which I scoffed at "HAH!"

Its a pretty decent album. Much much better than anything Nickleback have, or ever will do.

Yes.
Has to be expected with it being the most eagerly anticipated album of the last 15 years.
