View Full Version : Belvedere compared to GG
As the title says, how is Belvedere compared to Grey Goose? I've had GG but not Belv so I wanted to get some input before I go off buying it. Some say they are practically the same, which I can see, but others prefer one over the other. Just wanted to know your reasoning.
Please no "they're both overrated and overpriced" or any of that sort. It may be for you but I'm fine with it so don't waste your time.
grey goose is good but it is a little more pricey, other than that there really isn't too much difference in the two. to me they taste about the same.

I'd take both Belvedere and Chopin over Grey Goose.
I'm asking for a reason why.. smoother, taste, price? that would really help
Are you mixing, or drinking it up or on the rocks?
definitely just straight, no question about it
Well, in terms of smoothness and even taste, I'd say they're very comparable, with very little discernible difference to anyone who isn't intimately familiar with vodka tasting. That's just my experience with it when we'd randomly decide to compare the two during the three years I worked in a bar.
So, get whichever is more in your price range and you feel you'd enjoy more.
That being said, I do recall both having a bit of an aftertaste that was metallic and a bit unpleasant, so if you're drinking it up, it might not be the best choice. Personally, I feel that the best market vodka for drinking up or over the rocks is Absolut, which is extremely smooth, and leaves almost no aftertaste at all. It's also a few bucks cheaper, so that when you get too smashed to really enjoy the flavor, you could buy a couple bottles of something extra classy like Thunderbird to really put yourself over the edge. ;)
Take that for what you will. Hope that helps ya out some.
That's exactly what I'm looking for. So would anyone else say that Absolut is almost about as good?
I actually think that Absolut is superior to Belvedere and Grey Goose, for what it's worth. Like I said, smooth, even, every so slightly sweet, and hardly any detectable aftertaste.
But yeah, if anyone else wants to chime in here, feel free.

I'd take Absolut over GG maybe, but definitely not Chopin or Belvedere. I think those have a much better "taste" than Absolut.
If you're looking at cheaper vodkas, instead of Absolut, I'd suggest Stolichnaya, which I find to be very smooth and easy to drink.

yeah stoli is great, and not too expensive for the quality of the liquor. the flavored stoli is just excellent!
The only thing I'm really looking for is the smoothness, besides price even though that doesn't really matter much when its only a $10 difference. But pretty much the less rubbing alcohol taste, the better.

Grey Goose chilled, over ice is quite nice. Its like drinking alcoholic oil it slides so well.
I've never had Belvedere and would like to hear about it as well.

Belvedere is quite tasty and especially smoother in my opinion as compared to Grey Goose. I find Belvedere to be a greater product for the price paid as compared to Grey Goose though honestly I'd rather pay $5 or $10 less per bottle and go with Finlandia or Russian Standard.

Not much of a vodka drinker, but I do prefer Chopin over GG or Belvy. Usually when I get vodka I mix it. I like a Lemon Flavored Vodka, with a touch of club soda and a lemon wedge. It is amazing.

THREE OLIVES, the price is right, and it is just as fucking smooth as grey goose or any of the comparable premium vodkas, I have only had the pleasure of drinking it on several occasions. I bought the 1.75 liter and drank it between 3 people including myself. It is sometimes hard to find, but if you see it, get it. The aftertaste is not as harsh, I would say.
I've never tried belvedere because people always tend to gather a few extra bucks for the next step up, which is grey goose.

Something I've never understood is why people will spend $40+ on a bottle of liquor and then mix it. You might as well buy something cheap if you're going to do that. This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but a few people mentioned it. Anyway, vodkas are all fairly similar. They're the cheapest spirits to distill, so the price inflation is mostly due to advertising.
That being said, I like to drink a wide variety of spirits, but I'm not much of a vodka drinker. Take my advice with a grain of salt.
Grey goose is good, but it's expensive. I didn't notice much difference between grey goose and Svedka when they were both really cold.
Stoli is alright, but I didn't like the aftertaste. It was similar to Smirnoff, in my opinion.
Absolut is ok, but I was told it's kind of a joke because it was designed solely for the American market and advertised heavily but it's not really a great vodka and no one drinks it in its country of origin. This may or may not be true, so go figure. All the same, I think it's overpriced considering it doesn't differ much from Svedka, which costs considerably less.
I'd probably go with Chopin.
If I'm drinking vodka neat, I'll often get Level, Absolut's premium brand. It's about the smoothest I've found and it's priced similarly to GG and Belvedere at my local.

Level Is good, my friend bought some the other day, it is truly the only vodka I don't feel needs to be mixed, it is even better served ice cold.

I like Goose but it's price always drives me to another Vodka .
I tend to drink Russian Standard these days.

Russian Standard is pretty win. I'll look for a link later but several vodka tastings I've seen have declared it to be far above GG in taste.
