Why do they put security cameras in domes? So retards will mistake them for light fixtures? To make it harder to break the camera?

I used to think they had something to do with 360 degree panorama views but thats not the case. They usually have single cameras in there that rotate.

They're usually to protect the camera. Its somewhat of a double sided mirror, so you can't tell where it is facing.

Sneaky bastards. I read an article on surveillance cameras and before that I never thought of two way mirrors as good spots to hide a camera. Now I know how they get away with hidden cameras in cars. They just replace the drivers mirror with a two way mirror.

Its also tinted because if you shine a lazer light at it, it will fuck up a cameras contrast big time, and will turn it like black, rendering the camera useless.

I am going to go with 'It makes them easy to mount to most surfaces.'

I actually install security cameras and people just like the dome cameras better, they are easier to mount to ceilings and walls, they look better than the bulky PTZ cameras...

And they are cheaper than PTZ style cameras.
