I'll attempt to bring this thread back onto topic if that's possible at this late stage.

I'm half english and half irish which is pretty much as British as you can get. I can't stand Chavs to be honest. I agree with many peoples statement of them being the scum of the earth. I guess it's just english culture. I would say english people are very egotistical. When I was growing up in high school and even junior school it was always 'My dad is harder than yours' etc etc. I think England is a country with too much pride. You can see it in english sport ie. football, or 'soccer' for you americans. The pride one has being a supporter of a football team leads you into the most intense banter which no party will ever back down from. Also knowing and associating with people from the Hooligan firm who run with the club I support gives an insight into just how far an englishmen will go to protect his pride or reputation. This is half of what is wrong with England. It's why I can't walk into the town where I live at night without intense fear of being stabbed or even just provoked for a fight in the day by so called 'chavs'.

This is not to say I do not love my country. The customs and culture of the British are not all bad and personally I couldn't ever see myself moving away from England for my love of these cultures.
