No it is really not worth it to get a stock or 30 round mags. www.tapco.com has mags i believe. tapco usually makes pretty good stuff at a decent price. They also have a stock for it.
In my opinion the sks is fine just how it comes. if it wwere designed to be like that they would have designed it like that. Just get a bunch of stripper clips and a bandolier and you are good to go with the 10 round fixed mag. The stock is fine how it is. Spend your money on ammo.

I've got a yugo sks. All that aftermarket bullshit is just that. The SKS isn't an AR-15, and no amount of black pistol grip stocks or 30 round detachable mags is going to change that.
Get a bunch of stripper clips, as ilovechronic said, and get good with those. It will save you a lot of hassle and money.

I've got a yugo sks as well. I've been thinking about getting an aftermarket stock because the stock is extremely to short for me.
I've never tried them but my cousin says the tapco 30 round sks mags are the only ones worth buying, and he really knows his shit.

Adding accessories like those to an SKS would be a waste of money.
It wasn't designed to feed from detachable mags and there aren't any out there that work as satisfactorily as the original, fixed mag. As for the stock, I can't see any reason to change it unless it is too short or uncomfortable for you. It isn't a tactical rifle.
There's nothing wrong with the SKS though- they should simply be left alone.

They are Aks but they are built for bigger people, the other aks have a much shorter stock. apparently the sks is like this also I guess.

I have always been a supporter of tapco, this is why I suggested it to him if he does want to get the 30rounders. But really, the fixed mag and stripper clips will do just fine. tapco makes good products and they are priced well.
Also tapco.com is backordered well into 2009. They are going to become strictly a manufacturer pretty soon and I am not even sure if they are still excepting orders and if they are there will be a wait. they will soon be producing in more large amounts and they will be distributing to other dealers.
The only mag I see available on their site is the 15rd detachable for 24.99 www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?Id=465b1082-5f1e-4ba6-98b9-ca3782adf8e2
all of the 20.00$ mags are unavailable.

I saw one in the Big 5 today for $159. That's a pretty good price, given it's California.

Can anyone tell me how to inspect an SKS for sale/ spot a shitty one?
I may have to invest after all.

The same things you'd like for on any surplus rifle; smooth action, lack of pitting and rust, and a stock that hasn't been dinged and banged up to hell and back.

I was thinking more along the lines of where to find matching serials.

I'm not sure of whether or not SKS rifles have armory specific stamps as on the Nagant but those would probably be better to look for matching than actual numbers; someone pointed out to me on here that although my Nagant numbers match that is only because it was restamped after being refitted with replacement parts from an armory other than the original.

How are the gun laws in Narnia? Is it anything like the UK? Are the gremlins jealous that your 10/22 can kick their longbow's ass?

The gremlins may be jealous of my 10/22 but their magic is unstoppable.

Best mod I did on my SKS was a rear peep sight. Accuracy was apples and oranges. :)
